are they *really* waterproof, or just water-resistant? the sides...

are they *really* waterproof, or just water-resistant? the sides look like they have mesh panels on them, which would make them not waterproof in my book.

Waterproof sure, buy eventually the membranes in boots wear out and water will pass through. Not necessarily a terrible thing as water will pass out more easily.

They're really waterproof. They do have mesh panels, under which is a Gore-Tex membrane that keeps water out.
