My son is 10 years old and needs a tramping pack for scouts, would this be a good option, he needs to be able to carry gear for about 3 days

That is like a week long to month pack. for 3-4 days look at something between 50-60L. If you loaded this pack up you might tip the lad over. Try asking the scout leader what size of pack most kids are using.
