Alright, go to school in Kingston Ontario and I do most of my skiing on the west coast in generally warmer than -15 celsius (5F). I'm looking for a jacket that can function well on most resort days out west while also working with a little bit of layering in the variable Kingston winters of -25 to -30 at the coldest with lots of freezing rain and other garbage thrown in. Is this softshell going to work for both or, should I go with a proper totally waterproof jacket? I'm currently rocking an old Columbia 3 in 1 which is too big and losing it's waterproofness and looks awful. Thanks!

This jacket is warm, has a tough DWR, and is water resistant. But, if you are talking freezing rain and warmer temps... you might be a bit happier with a waterproof jacket/Insulating layer combo rather than this water resistant softshell. Check out the Mountain Hardwear Compressor Jacket in combo with either a Gore or Conduit Shell Jacket. The 2 layer GoreTex Escape Jacket from Hardwear could be a great choice as it could double as a rain shell in the summer. Hope this info helps!
