I'm a girl (5'2" and 100 lbs.) and bought these for myself in L. They fit perfectly (can accommodate two thin pairs of thermals underneath) and are warm and sturdy. I'm not sure how the Girls' fit compares, but these are pretty awesome.

I got these for sons last season when they were 9 & 6 and I am getting them again this year. They held up to sleigh riding and a full season of skiing for both. The are a roomy cut so beware since you are buying for your daughter. Can't say where you could try them on, but The North Face lists retailers on their website.
