What kind of color is "Not Black"? The photos make it hard to tell on my monitor. I've seen other items where "Not Black" seems to be more of a greyish, but these look like a dark, poop brown. Can anyone clarify?

They're like a mix of dark brown and dark gray. As mentioned above, it kind of depends on the lighting. From a distance they'd probably just appear dull black. I don't really know what the other guy is talking about with matching to other clothes. First of all, when I'm out hiking I don't really care what the birds and squirrels think of the colors of my clothes. Secondly, they definitely do look great with other clothes. I mean, if all you have is black and brown clothes you might look a little odd, but I wear these with blue, gray, red, and green a lot and I think I look pretty good.

the color is awful, they might as well called it not black, not brown, not gray cuz they don't go with anything I have, not my brown shoes, or my black shoes, or my brown/black shoes. And it does not go with any of my black jackets, or red jackets, or brown jackets, or gray jackets. can't understand why BC didn't go with either black or khaki or gray color. did they not piece this together with popular shoes and tops and realize it just does not go together with anything. unless of course if you are color blind, then go ahead and get it.

When you see them in person you might develop a more positive association to the color brown:D The pants are indeed a dark brown in most tungsten based lights and out in the sun. They almost seem kind of brown/merlot in fluorescent light. They work well with most color t-shirts I wear. I've been living in these pants for the past couple days.
