If the pants are too long can i get them hemmed?
I have a 34/35 waist but am only 5'8 and usually wear a 30" length. I just want to make sure that it would not harm the material to have them hemmed.

I don't think it will harm the material. Depending on what thread you use, the thread may siphon some water in but it should not be a significant amount.
