It generally depends on the airline. Over xmas break I packed the Osprey Aether 85 through Western and had no problems at all, but with American I've had problems with much smaller packs.

you cannot use this as a carry-on with american-airlines, i got RUDELY chewed out twice by them for even trying. however i had no problems with it on frontier airlines or alaskan. hope this helps ignacio. sorry about the late response though

I haven't carried this particular bag on an airplane, but I have carried on similarly shaped bags (both ~3200 cu in) and have had no problem.
