Nope - I wouldn't use that as a general rule. I would bump a size/half a size up for the shoe, the sandals have a much neater fit. Chaco provide a handy measuring tool you can print out on their website: www.chacousa.com (go to 'chaco fit' - 'size').Hope this helps!
