I see people wearing this on the slopes but what kind of conditions is this mostly used for? (ie is it too hot for summer downpours or is it better for the other three seasons?)

I agree with wan2787354. I think that it works wonderfully as a shell for 4-seasons use. It is completely waterproof for use as a rain jacket, and if one wears insulating layers underneath it works during colder pursuits as well. That said, it is still a jacket. You will be a bit warm if you are really pushing yourself during an 85 degree summer rain.

It's a shell jacket, there is no insulation or anything. I bought it to use as a rain jacket for summer/spring/fall just around town and backpacking. Works like a charm!
