This jacket is meant to be super light and packable so instead of pit zips it has a small opening (exhaust vent) directly under the arm pit. It works almost as well as pit zips without the weight and bulk. Also the description is incorrect. This is the 2009 version of the essence jacket which was upgraded to Marmot's Membrain Strata fabric, which is much more breathable than Precip. It's incredibly storm worthy at only 8 ozs. it does have vents under the arms- but no zippers. uses flaps instead. this is a very compressible light coat. no pockets for hands though.
