1) yes, zippers can be replaced...at home. This kit doesn't replace a broken zipper in the field. 2) The most common problem with zipper failure is a worn out slider. If the zipper coils are not meshing together properly, it is usually because the inside of the slider is worn. This kit makes easy repairs until you can get home and replace the zipper.
