Are these going to be okay for light hikes? Is ankle support going to be a problem? Traction?

This is a great fastpacking shoe so hiking is a definite go! Traction is grippy on most surfaces. For me all new shoes have a bit of a learning curve in terms of how they perform. I learn to adjust my gait to the conditions and all is well. These provide zero ankle support. I have used them on short training sessions with a 40# (140%) pack, but will normally carry closer to 25# when I head out for real.

Do not use with pack weight above 25lbs in my opinion.

Yes. These are great hiking shoes. I like using them for high mileage days, with a light-ish pack. Obviously you aren't going to get the same kind of support as with a dedicated backpacking boot, but the lacing system is more than adequate to keep your feet in place and as long as you're not carrying too much your ankles should be happy.
