How do the straps for the crampons attach? They look like they should go on the 4 D-loops on the back of the pack, and there are a couple straps that come with the pack. They have buckles and a couple of loops but I'm baffled as to how they attach.

I've got the 32L version, and had the same question. Here's a pic of how the straps attachk, courtesy of Black Diamond Europe!

You're correct that the D rings are the attachment points. The easiest thing to do would be to us a couple lengths of paracord, run them through the crampons and tie the ends off in the D rings. However, if you're going high enough that you won't want to take your gloves off, then just use webbing. Tie one end of the webbing into one D ring, run it through the crampons, go through the other D ring, and buckle it.
