We'd like to know which 14ner nearest to Colorado Springs is one with an easier trail? We've heard that Pike's Peak is a long, arduous trail. We'd like one we can hike up and down in a long morning. Thanks for your help.

Pike's Peak is the only fourteener in close proximity of Colorado Springs. It's shortest approach from the Crag's Campground is 4,100' elevation gain in 14 miles round trip. All the others are long day hikes but can be done, round trip in twelve plus hours. Consider the challenging Crestone's, Humboldt, or Long's Peak in RMNP. Also Antero, Princeton, Shavano, & Tabeguache can be day hiked from CS but all involve elevation gains of more than 4,500' in 10 miles. One more consideration is the Lincoln, Democrat, & Bross loop. These three can all be climbed out of Colorado Springs in eight hours round trip by an acclimated party in good climbing/hiking condition.
