I have a 3L CamelBak bladder and it doesn't really fit too well in this pack. I would suggest 1 or 1.5L maybe up to a 2L bladder, at most. I used the 3L, but it stuck up out of the pocket in the pack.

i have a 2l mountain gear water pouch, and it doesnt really fit on the hydration sleeve on my backpack, i dont know if the bladder has to be a specific shape (probable narrower).... but anyways its kinda hard to have a filled up water bladder with the backpack stuffed to the top

Oh it will fit up to the really big ones no prob. So a 3L would work just fine.
