I would reccomend something a little larger for carrying schoolbooks. It's wide enough to carry most books, but not deep enough front to back to carry more than one or maybe two. Also the material is very lightweight and I suspect the wear and tear of school use might be a bit much for it.

really it depends on the size of the book. This pack will not hold a 3 ring binder, but it holds my Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry texts books at the saem time. this pack also holds a few 5 subject notebooks with no problem

I have a black diamond Bbee and it is 12L and I can fit 2 text books comfortably. If you only have a couple classes you shoudl be able to carry atleast 3 maybe 4 books no problem since this is 20L. But if you have an all day schedule go with something a little bigger. But it is nice to have a waist belt if you bike to class, very handy.
