you can use them as handwarmers, the pockets are high to be out of way of hipbelts/harnesses but I can still get my hands in them comfortably. As a warning this is a lightweight shell so really not meant to be warm. I suggest using gloves rather than pockets during prolonged cold rain, will work much better.

I use mine as handwarmers but they also work well as vents esp when working hard on ice!

If you can get your hands in 'em, warm 'em up. But actually, since they're closer to your chest, I'd imagine hands would get warmer quicker. So go for it.
