Bear Canister

Bear Vault BV400 Bear Resistant Food Canister.

Bear Vault BV400 Bear Resistant Food Canister.

Rating for this product: 5 October 18, 2006

We used this bear canister when backpacking last month in the eastern zone of the Adirondack Mountains where canisters are required. It was much nicer than the canisters that you can rent from the DEC and doubles as an excellent seat. We were almost hoping to encounter bears just to see how it would hold up, but that didn't happen. It easily held all of our food for 3 days with room to spare. It was easy to strap onto the packs as well. Great buy.

Katadyn Hiker Water Microfilter

Katadyn Hiker Water Microfilter

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2006

We first used this filter while hiking 5 high peaks in the Adirondack's last month. The day and a half trip required a lot of water and the filter was used hard. Surprisingly it left no taste to the water whatsoever. I was fully satisfied with the purchase and price. Much better than lugging around a bunch of water bottles.

Must Have

Katadyn Hiker Water Filter Field Maintenance Kit

Katadyn Hiker Water Filter Field Maintenance Kit

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2006

This filter kit adds an extra filtering material to wrap around the existing filter to better filter out sediment and other objects. I was surprised after just one weekend of use how much dirt was trapped of the outer filter supplied with this kit. Again, well worth the money to keep the filter in great condition.
