Decent, but not great

Nothing really wrong with the food, it's ok, but also didn't find anything great about it. Longer sitting time with boiling water as well.

Excellent, best ever!

Mountain House Lasagna with Meat Sauce - 1 Serving Entree

Mountain House Lasagna with Meat Sauce - 1 Serving Entree

I have to agree with other reviews, this meal tastes great! I think their must be a magic with pasta with red sauce, because the Mountain House brand has it mastered. I would recommend this as well as any pasta with red sauce by Mountain House.

Excellent, great pasta taste!

Mountain House Spaghetti with Meat Sauce - 2 Serving Entree

Mountain House Spaghetti with Meat Sauce - 2 Serving Entree

2nd to best to the Mountain House Lasagna. The red sauce and pasta rehydrate very well. There is a reminder of the Spaghetti-O's flavor from being a kid, but perfect after a hard day hiking. I recommend all red sauce pastas by Mountain House, they have it mastered.

My favorite of the breakfast menus

Mountain House Scrambled Eggs w/ Bacon - Breakfast Entree

Mountain House Scrambled Eggs w/ Bacon - Breakfast Entree

Rating for this product: 4 September 29, 2006

None of the breakfasts quite match up to the dinners, but this one is easy, and really does taste like bacon and eggs. Not like fresh, but does have the right flavor for rehydrated food. This one only requires soaking in hot water and then pouring excess out. Much easier than the scrambles/omeletes. And to me, more exciting than boring oatmeal.

Tastes fine, but requires frying

AlpineAire Ranch Omelet with Beef

AlpineAire Ranch Omelet with Beef

Rating for this product: 3 September 29, 2006

Most of the breakfast meals are an egg powder you mix with cold water, then cook in a frying pan. I didn't realize this when I bought it. Not a big deal, but cleaning a pan in the wilderness isn't the easiest business. There are some egg meals that don't require frying, I prefer those. However taste wise, this was fine. Just add some seasonings and tabasco if you like it.

Excellent. Forget about hanging food for now on!

Bear Vault BV400 Bear Resistant Food Canister.

Bear Vault BV400 Bear Resistant Food Canister.

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2006

My first experience with this was in the backcountry of Olympic National Park. It was also the first backpacking I did without hanging food. Big improvement! Seriously, it has many benefits. 1) Condenses all your food into 1 container and seals. 2) Perfect for sitting on while you cook or hangout. 3) Just drop it on the ground 100-200 feet from your camp.
Note: Food takes up a lot of room. I found it easy to fill for a 4-day backpacking trip. Even with minimal toiletries (toothbrush and paste. Eye drops), and this is the big one! I would say it would be hard to get more than 2 people on a 3 night backpacking trip on this.
