Head Skis USA Jimi 110 Alpine Ski

January 14, 2011

Great idea, I've been thinking this for a couple of years. Numerical descriptions of rocker/tip profile just don't cut it.

Black Diamond GlideLite Mohair Mix STS Climbing Skin

January 13, 2011

Cutting your skins the BD way is so yesterday. Get one of the G3 skin cutting tools and cut them perfectly without moving it back and forth 3 times. K2's attachment system is great, the skin material is sourced from Climbing Skins Direct - they've had some glue inconsistency problems but generally a decent product. Hard to beat BD for glue and durability, though.

Dynastar Legend Pro Rider 115 Ski

January 4, 2011

This ski is as stable as a truck at speed, calm on hardpack, rolls over variable snow with ease but be careful with sharp dips as the tip upturn is minimal and the rocker very subtle. Flex is indeed much softer than XXL's, but they appear to have 2 sheets of titanal. The LPR 115 needs a lot of energy (or speed) to turn, possibly not the best choice for tight trees but money in wide open places.

Marker Baron Ski Bindings

December 13, 2008

That's a bit misleading, since the number of AT models with interchangeable alpine soles can be counted on the toes of one foot. The Jester is set for an ALPINE DIN toe and has NO adjustment - an AT boot toe is normally 7mm higher. If you are using any AT boot without interchangeable soles you will need the Duke or Baron.

Nice, but . . .

Leatherman Skeletool Multi-Tool

Leatherman Skeletool Multi-Tool

Rating for this product: 4 September 30, 2008

What I really needed in a multi-tool, besides knife and pliers, was a Pozidrive #3 bit and a Torx T10 bit for servicing Dynafits in the field. The skinny one Pozidrive provided with the $20 BitKit was pretty wimpy, so I ended up grinding a real one down to fit.

(photo here: http://www.randosaigai.com/leatherman090708_01.jpg).

Overall, the Skeletool looks cool, and the knife and pliers are way burlier than those of the Juice series, though the bottle opener/biner hanger is a waste of space since I never hang the thing off my belt and don't take glass bottles into the BC.
