Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

April 16, 2012

I'm all for being friendly, but why would you reply to a question when you can't give an answer?

It's noisy. Maybe even louder than the original and like Dave mentions, it's like a bag of potato chips. It doesn't bother me too much because I'm usually tired, it might bother your neighbors if they are light sleepers.

How's the sizing on this thing? I've heard that they may run a bit small and people close to 6' need to get the long.

Five Ten Anasazi LV Climbing Shoe - Women's

Five Ten Anasazi LV Climbing Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2012

And the regular Anasazi VCS has this really baggy heel. Not only that, but when I get it nice and tight, the top of the shoe digs into my ankle at the sides and back. I get blisters or rashes after a session. I tried these on and they fit great. They still have the edging anasazi's are known for and are a great do-it-all shoe. Those who want a more specific shoe for steep routes, look into the Muira or Solution which fit my feet well too. I suppose I could take a star down for the color, but in the end, who cares as long as they feel great (and at least they're not light purple anymore).

Osprey Packs Hornet 46 Backpack - 2685-2928cu in

February 9, 2012

Hi, I heard this pack runs a bit small. I have an 18" torso (which I hate because it seems to be the cut-off point for all pack). Does anyone have any experience on whether the S/M or M/L would fit me best?

Marmot Ama Dablam Down Jacket - Men's

November 28, 2011

Depending on you, it'll be warm into the teens, possibly lower if you use a shell and move are moving around. Keep it dry! I think it has around 3-3.5oz of 800 fill. If you need something warmer, use that to compare.

MontBell Ex Light Down Jacket - Men's

November 28, 2011

No way. This has less than 2oz of 900 fill. If you have a windproof shell, that's enough to get you down to 20F. Maybe. Try a heavier jacket like the Mostbell frost or Outdoor research megaplume, Mountain Hardware sub-zero. If you run warm, perhaps the Marmot Ama Dablam would work. However, I suggest you get a jacket that works for 90% of the weather you encounter, not spend over 200 for those 5 days when it's that cold (not from NY so I don't know how cold it gets). The above jackets will make you sweat in anything above 20deg and if you do anything active. Get the Marmot AD, wear a shell over it, a light fleece and a wool long sleeve under if it gets that cold.... Or stay home. Hope that helps some.

Snow Peak Trek 900 Titanium Cookset

October 5, 2011

Kinda. The pan will fit in, but not snug (handle thing gets in the way. If you really want to double cook, get the 1400 and the bowl, they fit in snug. Also, you can get fourdogstoves to make you a custom ti lid so you can have the pan (or bowl) covered while you cook.

But it's just my opinion, but the handle on the pan is not super secure (nor insulated). I'd totally use evernew, but everyone makes stoves that slide into the snowpeaks.

GoLite Kenai Pertex 2.5 Layer Jacket - Men's

September 24, 2011

Hi, I'm 5"11", 165lbs, what size would fit me? Should have room for layers, but probably not a huge puffy since I'm not taking this on any winter trips.

Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian Backpack - 3400-3800cu in

June 13, 2011

thank you. I was referring to the side pockets. I had thought they rerouted them under the pocket like the with Nimbus Trace. I mean, why would you put a compression strap over someplace where you'd like to keep a water bottle or something.

Perfect warmth for Cali weather. If you're going somewhere colder, might be a little light.
Not much padding if that's what you prefer.

Demon Snow Wrist Guard

Demon Snow Wrist Guard

Rating for this product: 4 January 14, 2010

They do fit under gloves, although it's a little tight. I think the only way it could be better is if it's got a brace on the other side of the wrist. Never snap your wrist on a jump again.

The North Face Realization Jacket - Men's

The North Face Realization Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 5, 2010

This jacket is actually Gore-tex PERFORMANCE shell, not their pro shell. Difference? Maybe the 2 layers instead of 3. It's significantly cheaper than the top-line Free Thinker II shell which is the 3 layers.

But this one works great. It's a little on the heavy side but I'm not hiking in it nor do I use it for rain - only for snowsports.
Arms are slightly baggy (for layering).
Hood adj in the front and around head, no adj for length in back.
All the options.
I know there's arguments about proshells, eVent etc but I'm just a regular boarder and it breaths/waterproofs just fine.

Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket - Men's

Alpha/Beta usually fit your at the belt/waist or just under, a little longer in the back. The Theta will cover your seat - maybe a hand's length below belt.

Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket - Men's

December 23, 2009

Other person said good stuff. Bottom line.
TNF: cheaper, a lot of useful extras like windskirt, lining, more pockets, inside mesh pocket, Summit Series logo so people know you're hardcore. (also TNF will never go out of business so their lifetime guarantee means your lifetime)

Theta: Best fabrics on the market. Lighter. Has 4 pockets and a hood. Were you looking for something more?

According to the description on moosejaw, 2008 does not have an internal pocket. But the weight is the same. You'd think an extra would weigh at least a gram, right?

Burton Gore-Tex Glove - Men's

Burton Gore-Tex Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2009

Great gloves. In Cali, it's usually too warm to use the inside glove but I get a free pair of liners for morning drives.
Has lots of thoughtful features: Glove vent, wide pull tab to open wrist cinch and tab to open back of the gauntlet so you can grab it with gloves on, glove keepers so you won't accidentally drop one off the lift.

Sorel Conquest Boot - Men's

December 23, 2009

Maybe extra tightening? keep extra shoelace out of the way? Doesn't seem to do much.

Easy to slide on, laces like any other boot, but I felt that pulling the laces was smooth and easy since it goes through metal rings.

Mountain Hardwear Escalade Short - Men's

August 14, 2008

Length from crotch down. I'm 5'11", 10inches is above knee, 12, just below, 18 - forbidden because they're capris. Nylon is a good fabric because it's light, but it hangs weird if you keep cell or wallet in there. Prana is a climb clothing company. I Have Columbia task Master shorts 70/30 nylon/cotton blend - works for me.
