Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Eagle Axion Crampons

November 12, 2009

Not 100% positive, but I think they only work with the Fritschi Diamir Eagle binding (hence the name). The Eagle & the Freeride have different pivot points, so that is likely why it won't fit. Also, I think these crampons have a max width of 86? But I think they might make an 82 width as well, so definately clarify before you buy (altho, my guess is that 86 is too narrow anyhow?). Here is where I got that info: http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442631423&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302725939

But, backcountry is super easy on exchanges, so if you buy & they don't work, you can just return...

I have these crampons for my freerides and they are super easy to take on & off, but you do have step out of the binding (so if you are already on the steeps it is too late): http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Black-Diamond-Fritschi-Diamir-Ski-Crampon/BLD0496M.html

I also reconmend drilling a small hole, in the tops of these, so you dangle them off the outside of your pack. They tend to rip up your gear inside your pack...

Marmot Alpinist Bivy

May 18, 2009

Do I need a tarp for this bivy (or any bivy) when I snow camp? Looking for something to replace a tent for April/May/June ski tours (might also use it for added warmth in a tent in the middle of winter). Breathability and weight are main factors. Not planning to use in wet/stormy weather. Thanks!

Scarpa Skookum Boot

January 30, 2009

Scarpa makes these boots down to a size 23.5. Why doesn't Backcountry.com (or any other website/store) carry these boots below a size 25.0!!! Very frustrating.

Scarpa Skookum Boot

January 30, 2009

I checked 'em out in the store. The tongue heights and liner heights are the same, but the shell of the Typhoon is a little taller than the Skookum.

Scarpa Skookum Boot

January 14, 2009

What is the height of the plastic shell on this boot? Does the tongue and calf area on the shell have the same height? And how does the height compare to the shell of the Scarpa Typhoon? Thanks!
