Great ultralight jacket!

Outdoor Research Zealot Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Zealot Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 5 days ago

I got this jacket about 2 years ago and have loved it since the first day I wore it in the rain! It is fully waterproof and very breathable. I once spend an entire day working in the summer rain and didn't get wet or clammy. Its so light and packs down so small that I never hesitate to throw it into my bag even if there is only a slight chance of rain! The fabric is thin and can't take a heavy beating, but it can easily withstand normal abuse from camping and hiking (just don't go bushwhacking in it).

The only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the zipper is tough to start at times, which is no fun when you get caught in a sudden shower.

Great active-use jacket

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 8, 2009

Perfect jacket for the right activity. The stretch fabric is very durable and breathes well while keeping you warm. It has a very athletic fit (I'm 5'7", 150#; I got a small) so size up if you want to layer more heavily but if you are using this for strenuous activities (climbing, hiking) this jacket is perfect. My only complaint is that it is not super warm by itself so grab a puffy jacket for camp or belaying

MontBell Ultralight Down Jacket - Men's

April 7, 2009

How durable is this jacket? It looks like it is so fragile that a twig or stray campfire spark would ruin it?

The North Face TKA 100 Glacier 1/4 Zip Fleece Pullover - Men's

April 7, 2009

This fleece would be a great choice. By itself it will keep you warm into the 50s, but when added to another insulating layer like a down jacket it adds a good deal of warmth without a lot of bulk. I would recommend you ditch the wind shirt (just added weight since your rain jacket will block the wind if it gets bad) and bring along a good down jacket. This fleece with a down jacket and rain shell should keep you warm in just about anything.
