Marmot Northshore Jacket - Men's

July 23, 2008

This shell isn't going to be that packable. It is going to weigh 2lb 7oz which should help with an idea of how packable it will be. This is going to be your proper ski jacket, it has a fleece lining as well. The fleece lining is also removable which will take some of the weight of making it a little bit more packable but all in all this isn't going to be a ultra light jacket that you can really pack down. Take a look at Arc'teryx for more packable jackets.

Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Softshell Jacket - Men's

July 23, 2008

Hey Dyedjedi. Yeah that would be warm enough for Syracuse winters. I would recommend grabbing another shell for added protection from the snow and rain (which Syracuse is known for) on worse days. I'm from upstate NY and I have used Many of Mountain Hardwear's different gear up there and it has worked wonderfully. Yeah, the combination would work very well for your every day commute.

Marmot PreCip Traveler Jacket - Men's

July 23, 2008

Hey Spencer, this is going to be a great jacket for ball games, and when it comes to backpacking it is really personal preference. This jacket is going to come down past your butt for sitting. That might be annoying for backpacking ... walking up hill wont be able to take as long strides. Just remember that BC has an awesome return policy. If you don't like it now or in 30 years you can return it no questions asked
