Nikwax Polar Proof Solution

October 20, 2009

How does the Polar Proof formula differ from the Glove Proof formula?
Would it have to deal with waterproof verse water resistant, or a matter of durability?

Here is the location of the study.

As to non-BPA nalgenes, I still do not place hot liquids in mine.

Laken Classic Bottle - 1L

October 15, 2009

It has about an 1 3/8" diameter mouth. So you won't see something like a mason jar here.

Good Brainbucket

Petzl Elios Climbing Helmet

Petzl Elios Climbing Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2008

I have worn the older style Petzel as well as the Back Diamond Half dome, and I like the ventilation and headlamp clipping the best. The helmet is low profile and light as described so it doesn't get in the way in a climb. The chin straps are easy to buckle, unbuckle, and adjust whether or not in motion. Like any helmet I keep it out of the sun and away from fumes which will retain its functionality for its life. I also avoid the unnecessary clunking about so no news on an impact.

Fits great lasts long

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp

Rating for this product: 4 August 28, 2008

Like any headlamp, the Tikka Plus provides the hands free aspect, where it excels is in its battery longevity and in its pulse, blink or solid settings. The light fits well on my Petzel helmet and adjusts easily to fit without a helmet.
The adjustable pitch to the light can be shifted easily up an down, this is good for changes when moving but necessitates an adjustment after having it packed. The light can also be turned on in a pack if packed snug.
Despite being on in my pack, the batteries still lasted.

Not bad

Laken Classic Bottle - 1L

Laken Classic Bottle - 1L

Rating for this product: 4 August 28, 2008

The 1L Laken has a great widemouth for ice cubes and easily cleaning, but the bottle dents easily (especially when full) reducing the capacity. I have no complaints about the paint job, I care about the amount of and quality of water I carry. The food grade interior coating does not change the taste of water and there is no concern with drinking too much from aluminum.
The screw top remains snug after a lot of jostling too, though its just as hard to clean as a Nalgene top.

Black Diamond Quicksilver Quickpack Quickdraws

Black Diamond Quicksilver Quickpack Quickdraws

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2008

These quickdraws are a great standby. Their solid on bolts and not too heavy for your standard sport lead route. The clipping is just right especially since you can get varied bone lengths. I've taken a few lead falls on mine and there is no deformation, just some lost paint. To climbed big walls I'd want a lighter set from BD or I'd just switch out the carabiners.

Beal Edlinger II 10.2mm Rope DO NOT USE

Beal Edlinger II 10.2mm Rope DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2008

I bought the 70m dry rope a year ago and don't regret it.
My rope has a marked center. The 10.2 is also not too heavy for the standard route. Quality all around.
