Warm & Fuzzy

The North Face Polar Beanie

The North Face Polar Beanie

Rating for this product: 4 July 11, 2008

This is one of the warmest, most comfortable, & cute beanies I've owned. The inside of the beanie is fleece lined around the ears (no itching!!) & adds quite a bit of warmth. My only complaint is that after washing, some of the weave started to pull out. (Of course, I threw it in my washing machine, which is probably not appropriate). I can also say that my dog loved it, too, & now I have to buy a new one for next season.

Classy & Comfortable

The North Face Seabright Dress - Women's

The North Face Seabright Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 11, 2008

I love it when I find a summer dress that is comfortable (no harsh materials in this one), fits as advertised (you don't have to be 15 & 90lbs to look good in it), & washes well (I'm not kind to my clothing & need durability)! This is definitely a dress I will wear for years since the style it clean & simple - it will also flatter many body shapes b/c it doesn't hug the stomach, hips, or thighs. But, the design also prevents you from looking like a circus tent. I normally wear a size 6 in dresses & a size M was a perfect fit. The straps are adjustable, which helped.

Very Cute, But Odd Sizing

The North Face Hammerland Capri Pant - Women's

The North Face Hammerland Capri Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 July 11, 2008

These capris are definitely functional, cute, & made from comfortable material (they get 5 stars for those categories). But, I feel that the sizing is very odd. I have several pairs of North Face pants (sizes 6-8) and they have always been a perfect fit. I ordered these in an 8 because I wanted a little extra room. They fit, but are very tight in the hips & butt. If you have a more "shapely" bottom half, I'd suggest looking elsewhere (especially if you don't want to be pulling out wedgies all day).

Almost Perfect

The North Face Potrero Cami Printed - Women's

The North Face Potrero Cami Printed - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 11, 2008

This top is perfect for low impact activities & casual wear. (Like the previous review mentions, I wouldn't suggest it for anything where you need real support). The style is very cute & flattering (it fully covers your stomach & isn't skin tight below the chest). I've worn this with everything from jeans, a skirt, & yoga pants - very versatile. Unfortunately, when I washed this for the first time the black faded significantly. It looked like it was a year old. If you can deal with a broken-in look, you'll love it.

A Closet Staple

The North Face Notch V Knit - Short Sleeve - Women's

The North Face Notch V Knit - Short Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 11, 2008

This is a great variation on the plain white (or black) top in every closet. There are a few unique features that make it feminine, but not too "froofy". The cotton is extremely soft & lightweight. Sometimes cap sleeves tend to be too tight under the arm, but this shirt is perfect. I ordered a medium (typically a size 6) & probably could have gone with a small. The medium is slightly baggie, but also very comfortable.

Outdoor Research Radia Gloves - Women's

Outdoor Research Radia Gloves - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2007

I have never been disappointed with Outdoor Research in the past and I just purchased another great product. Despite the size, I was impressed with the amount of control I still have with the Radia Gloves. The tops of the gloves are more insulated than the palms, allowing more dexterity. These definitely aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. The construction is impeccable and the quality fleece in the liner makes them very warm. I also like how snug they fit around the wrists when tightened.

Outdoor Research PL Base Gloves - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2007

The Outdoor Research PL Base Gloves are well made, extremely light, and fitting. They are perfect as liners or spring resort or backcountry days. Since they are so thin, you don't lose any agility (they're almost as good as your bare hands). The inside has a surprisingly soft material for wicking. For the price, you can't get much better.

Patagonia Down With It Parka - Women's

Patagonia Down With It Parka - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 27, 2007

I've been looking for 2 years for a longer down jacket that won't make me look like a marshmallow, has practical features, and is easy to move in. This one is perfect! This jacket gives you at least a bit of a waist, has a great hood that you can pull around your face on cold days, pockets in all the right places, and cute lining in the sleeves. (I just wish they had used this for all of the lining!) It also comes with a double zipper so you can give yourself more room for walking. I think my favorite feature is that it's made 100% out of recycled material. I ordered a small based on the sizing chart, even though I normally wear a medium. It's a perfect fit.

Bamboo!

Pistil Reed Beanie

Pistil Reed Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 September 27, 2007

I love the fact that this beanie is partially made of bamboo (it's much more sustainable than other fibers on the market). The fabric might feel a bit rough, but the hat is lined with a thick, warm fleece except for the very top. It brings warmth to your ears & makes it breathable. The fit is very snug & comfortable.

Outdoor Research Venture Pants - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 19, 2007

Compared to other hiking pants I've owned, these are far & away the best. I can't stand heavier, more abrasive materials (even if they are more durable). These pants are incredibly lightweight, soft against the skin, and didn't snag on rocks or trees. The fit is perfect - OR designed these pants for an average woman's body (they might be a bit large in the hips & butt for someone who is very petite). I ordered a medium & typically wear a size 6.

Rating for this product: 5 September 14, 2007

This top is perfect for cold days out in the snow. It wicks, it doesn't smell over time, and feels comfortable against the skin (even though it's wool). You can also get away with wearing this shirt with a pair of jeans if you feel like going casual. Best of all, I love knowing that what I'm wearing is 100% natural (no chemicals!) This top fits true to size.

Disappointed

Highgear Enduro Mini Watch

Highgear Enduro Mini Watch

Rating for this product: 2 September 13, 2007

Since the other reviews are great, maybe I just got a lemon. The watch was great for the first few months, but the quality is poor. The sections where the 2 different color pieces meet are starting to rip apart (especially at the tip of the band). The rubber material around the edge of the watch face is also starting to stretch. I feel like the battery should last longer than 6 months, but the low battery warning just popped up. The material can be a bit annoying as well - it sometimes pinches the skin (or tugs at your arm hair) since it's rubbery.

Dansko Courtney Casual Clog- Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 13, 2007

These are so much better than my old mary janes that I finally retired! They have excellent support, but still feel like slippers. I have a higher arch, so sometimes the mid-top of my foot rubs against the strap, but everything else fits perfectly. These are a great alternative for someone who can't dress down at the office, but can't stand heels.

Nalgene Lexan Wide Mouth Water Bottle - 32oz DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2007

I don't think there is such a thing as having too many Nalgenes. We use them daily to keep hydrated and always when we hike, camp, or workout. They are lightweight, you can't break them, and they wash well in the dishwasher (I can't say the same for all of the stickers I put on them). I also love that no matter what liquid I have in the bottle, I can't taste it after washing.

CW-X LiteFit Brief - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2007

I tried 3 different pair of underwear recently (also from Ex Officio & Mountain Hardwear) and this is my favorite by far. They're the most expensive, but well worth the premium. Assuming you aren't out to look "sexy" in your workout underwear (because these were the most "granny" looking), these win in comfort, fit, and quality. They don't ride up and there is no chafing. I'll be buying multiple pairs!

Outdoor Research Catalyst Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 13, 2007

I hate shopping for pants and can be difficult to fit, so these were a pleasant surprise. The waist band is extremely comfortable and doesn't rub or chafe, even with a pack. These were built for a woman with consideration for hips & butt. I normally wear a 6 in pants, and a medium is the perfect fit. The material is extremely lightweight and soft, wicks well, and doesn't snag on branches or rock. I also love the fact that you can roll up & secure the bottoms if you need to step into the stream on a hot day!

Mountain Hardwear Hyperdry Brief - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 13, 2007

These are great, but not my favorite. The material seems a bit more "loose" than other athletic underwear I have purchased. While they don't ride up often, they don't feel seamless against my skin. They appear to run a bit large. I normally wear a size 6 pant and I ordered a medium (I probably could have ordered a small). They do wick well, though, and have washed well during the 1 month I've had them.

prAna Gaucho Capri Organic - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 12, 2007

These pants are great for everything from lounging, going casual at work, and even walking. The waist band is one of the most comfortable I've experienced, as you can control whether you wear the pants very low or high on the waist. I ordered a size small and am 5'7" and normally wear a 6 in pants. The small fit perfectly. I'm also very happy with how they wash over time - I've seen no issues with the fabric over several months of heavy wear.

prAna Tizi Sport Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 12, 2007

I purchased this for yoga because I was sick of my old t-shirts falling over my head during Downward Dogs. I love how it covers my waist fully, stretches with me when I move, and also looks great. The design in the back is cool, but it makes putting it on a bit of a puzzle. This shirt runs true to size (maybe slightly on the larger end) and support is light. I will wear a sports bra under it to run or hike & it works great. I've also had no problem with chafing while pairing it with a light daypack.

Smith Method Sunglasses - Polarchromic - Polarized

Rating for this product: 4 September 12, 2007

I've been stuck on Smith Slider Sunglasses for years now, and finally decided to buy something a bit larger and more "fashionable". I was surprised how much I liked the Method Sunglasses. Unlike some other glasses I tried on, these don't slip or slide on your head and have a great grip. The lenses do a great job of blocking the sun, while giving you a brightened view. I also love the way they look - they're not too big and definitely not too small. While I still like my Sliders better for exercising, these are great for everything else.

GoLite Calamity Jane Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2007

I was a huge skeptic when it came to running skirts. I thought this was just a ploy to appeal to sporty soccer moms. But, after trying out this skirt I get it. If I ever run another marathon, I won't be without this. The ultralight lining feels great next to your skin without chafing. The outer skirt layer is extraordinarily lightweight, so you feel like you're running in next to nothing! The waist wasn't too tight, like some running shorts feel (I think this actually runs a little large).

Rating for this product: 5 July 16, 2007

This system is great and I'd highly recommend it to anyone who takes a lot of road trips, wants to organize their gear closet, or likes to be the festival "sherpa". Having 3 separate bags definitely comes in handy when you want to separate wet from dry gear and dirty from clean clothes. I also purchased the Mountainsmith Deluxe Cooler - it fits perfectly into the large bag with 2 others. All of the bags can be easily wiped clean and are durable.

injinji Performance Micro Toe Sock

injinji Performance Micro Toe Sock

Rating for this product: 3 July 16, 2007

I bought a pair of these socks out of curiosity and mostly for the novelty, so I can't say I was disappointed. But, personally I don't see a real benefit to having my toes separated. It's a bizarre feeling (which goes away once you're running, biking, etc) and I can't say it's saved me from any blisters vs regular socks. After wearing and washing them only 2-3 times I can already see signs of deterioration in the material. On the other hand, they are very lightweight and are perfect if you want to throw them on after the sun goes down with flip flops.

Lafuma CB Camping Chair

Lafuma CB Camping Chair

Rating for this product: 4 July 16, 2007

I bought 2 of these chairs for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival this year and was 90% happy with them. They come with a nice shoulder strap and were light enough to run with (I beat out other people in line who had big, clunky chairs for a better tarp spot)! They are sturdy enough to support a 200 lb person and the low back is great where high-back chairs aren't allowed or are an annoyance to others. These aren't the most comfortable chairs, though, if you plan to sit for more than a couple of hours without moving around. There are no arm rests or any real support for your lower back.

The North Face Libra Cargo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 16, 2007

These are the softest, most comfortable pants I own (well, that excludes my sweatpants). The fabric is extremely lightweight and can even be worn on 90+ degree days. They wash well (I haven't tried them in the dryer yet), and look as good as the day I bought them a few months ago. The North Face Onati Camisole Casual Tank - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 16, 2007

This is a staple in my wardrobe. I wear it at least 2x/week under other shirts, dresses, or as pjs. The fabric is thicker than most camisoles I've owned before and the built in shelf bra provides more support than I thought it would. It fits tightly, but comfortably, and the bottom falls around my hips. I've only had it for a few months and the front seam has started to rip. I like it enough that I'll probably buy another one, though.

Patagonia Pinback Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 16, 2007

I can't speak to how this top performs during any type of physical activity, like climbing or hiking, but from an aesthetic point of view, it's amazing. Not only is it comfortable (...you don't have to wear a bra with this...), but it's definitely good looking! You can pair this with jeans, a casual skirt, or yoga pants. I loved the Sally/Blue Reef fabric more in person than in the picture. My only tiny complaint is that the knot at the back of my neck gets a bit annoying after awhile, but I'm still giving it a 5.

Rating for this product: 5 July 16, 2007

This is a great addition to any wardrobe. I bought one in black, only to return & buy one in red a month later because I wore it so frequently. This tank goes from the trail, to the gym, and to work easily. It's thin enough to layer, but thick and long enough to wear alone. This is also one of the most slimming items in my closet. The way it's cut around the waist and hips is extremely flattering. It probably goes without saying, but it is also extremely comfortable. I only wish Patagonia would make it in 10 more colors.

Rating for this product: 5 July 16, 2007

This was my first Contourwear purchase and it's made me a believer. I'm so impressed with the combination of class, comfort, durability, and function of this shirt. The fabric feels like a micro-suede (you'll find that strangers come up to you & rub your arm), but it is highly breathable and warm. I never got cold in this shirt, even in the dead of winter. You'll pay a bit of a premium because of the quality and versatility, but it's worth every penny. I've worn this too many times to count and it still looks brand new.

Arc'teryx Velox Running Short - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 5, 2007

These shorts are perfect if you're looking for something lightweight, not too short (but not too long), and high quality. I am between a small & medium, and opting with the larger size was smart (I don't like shorts that are tight). The fabric is smooth, highly breathable, & will not chafe or ride up on long runs. You'll pay a bit of a premium for the Arc'teryx name but, from my experience, the quality you get is well worth a few extra dollars.

Patagonia Baggies Shorts - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

After hearing great things about these shorts I ordered a pair for running, hiking, & paddling. When they arrived, I was worried because the material felt more stiff than I imagined & the fabric seemed see-through thin. BUT...I was pleasantly surprised. The stiffer fabric is extremely comfortable, lightweight, and is what makes them durable. The fabric was not see-through at all (I can't vouch for this if they're wet, though). I expect to get years of wear from these. They fit true to size. I am typically between a small/medium and a medium fits with a little extra room in the waist/hips without falling down.

Chaco Intersect Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2007

After years of wearing the flat, foam soled, cheap flip flops (and killing my arches in the process) I decided to spring for these. The support is what I expected from Chaco and they feel great on my arches. I have a tendency to get blisters from most flip flops if I'm on my feet for an extended period of time, but I'm blister-free so far with these shoes. I had to go 1/2 size larger than normal for a proper fit.

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2006

I own this sweatshirt along with the Horny Toad Saffy Jacket because the material is as soft as it gets. It's soft like cashmere, without the price tag and with added function. I love this sweatshirt best for lounging & comfortable days at the office, but have used it for fall & spring running as well. It definitely keeps you warm & cozy in any situation.

Lightweight Layer, No Stink

GoLite Drimove Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Women's

GoLite Drimove Long-Sleeve Zip Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2006

This layer is perfect for fall or spring activities when temperatures are around 45-55 degrees or as a layer underneath a shell for winter activity. It wicks well and does not retain any order like many other base layers. The lightweight material is very soft against the skin and washes well. It seems that this shirt runs a bit large, though. I am usually between a small & medium, but a medium in this shirt almost swallows me.

Mad Rock Phoenix Climbing Shoe - Men's DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2006

With all of the options on the market made specifically for women, it might not make sense to buy this shoe, but it has worked for me. I do have to work with the laces a bit more than I would like to get them tight enough. But, the grip is excellent and they are not painfully uncomfortable.

Non-greasy, Effective

Kinesys SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray 4oz

Kinesys SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray 4oz

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2006

Finally!! Someone made a sunscreen that is not messy to apply, dries quickly, isn't greasy, doesn't sweat off, and doesn't clog my pores. I am very cautious about the types of sunscreen I will use on my face and wanted something highly effective (especially for skiing where burns can get nasty). But, I don't like the idea of getting performance sunscreen at the cost of a breakout. Kinesys has come up with a perfect solution for me. Plus, it's not too expensive and lasts quite a long time.

Great water treatment solution

MSR MIOX Purifier

MSR MIOX Purifier

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2006

Once you get the hang of it, this is a very quick, simple, and effective form of water treatment for the backcountry. When weight is a consideration, the Miox is a non-bulky product that easily fits into any pack (no matter how full!) Like the other reviews mention, the water does taste a bit different, but I've had worse from big city taps. Plus, it beats the heck out of the alternative!

No more cold hands!

Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Mitt

Mountain Hardwear Absolute Zero Mitt

Rating for this product: 5 December 19, 2006

No matter how sunny it is, for some reason I always get cold hands while skiing (especially on the lifts). I bought these for skiing and winter backcountry tours and haven't been disappointed in any way. They are a bit bulky, but that's a small price to pay for toasty hands. The PrimaLoft inner mitts are very soft & quick drying. The outer Conduit layer cuts the elements & prevents any wind or precipitation from getting through. I also love the powder cuff - no more snow up my sleeves or fumbling to tuck my gloves under my jacket. The inner mitts easily hook in/out of the outer mitts and the outer mitts can be used with a different, lighter glove on warmer days.

These gloves are perfect for a variety of situations. I use them for going to & from work, skiing on spring days, hiking, running, and as a layer under heavier mitts on cold days. For the price, these are a great value considering the amount of use I get out of them. Plus, they wash well and have not shown any sign of wear (despite PLENTY of use).

Cloudveil Troller Glove

Cloudveil Troller Glove

Rating for this product: 4 December 19, 2006

On very cold days, I turn to my mitts. But, for sunny winter days these usually do the trick. I love how much easier it is to do simple things like unzip my pack, adjust my boots, or eat lunch on the lift with these gloves versus any other I have owned. They are not bulky, but still do a decent job of keeping my hands warm (which is much easier said than done). These gloves have been a great addition to my winter gear wardrobe.

LEKI Makalu Antishock Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 3 December 18, 2006

I wouldn't buy these again. I've had quite a bit of trouble keeping them locked, which is pretty annoying when you're carrying a heavy pack up a steep trail. When they are working, I don't have any complaints about the weight, comfort, or stability they provide. They work well on rocky terrain and they absorb a majority of the shock.

Perfect for cold days in the backcountry!

Patagonia Down Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

This is the warmest jacket I've owned - whether I wear it to work, skiing, or hiking in the backcountry during winter, it hasn't disappointed me. The fit is very slim, but has enough room for 1-2 light layers underneath. It is not bulky, so it fits easily beneath my hard shell on extremely cold days. The material is more durable than other down jackets I have owned. Despite a few run-ins with tree branches & rocks it is still unscathed. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a down jacket that can serve multiple purposes .

Patagonia R1 Flash Pullover - Women's

Patagonia R1 Flash Pullover - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

I probably wear this layer 2x/week in the winter and it is an essential part of my wardrobe. It is ideal as an outer layer for running & perfect under a shell for colder days on the mountain. I don't think I own another layer that wicks moisture as efficiently. In addition to great performance, it fits comfortably close to the body (with enough room for a light layer underneath) without any chafing at the neck. I am usually between a small & medium, but wear a small in this item.

Easy to use, convenient

CamelBak Classic Hydration Pack

CamelBak Classic Hydration Pack

Rating for this product: 4 December 18, 2006

This is great for low impact hikes or biking. It holds my keys, ID, and snacks (not to mention water) - a much better alternative to stuffing it in pockets, holding on to it, or carrying a heavier pack. For higher impact activities, like running, be careful what is worn underneath. I've had a few instances where I was badly chafed. Otherwise, it's a quick & easy hydration solution.

MSR Denali Classic Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

I purchased these as my first pair of snowshoes for mellow hikes & ski approaches (where snow is too deep for skinning). They are very light weight and not a strain on the pack. It only takes a couple of seconds to put them on, which is great in cold weather when you just want to keep moving. They have worked great in deep snow and anything moderately steep.

Powder Hound Skis

Volkl Aura Ski - Women's

Volkl Aura Ski - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2006

My first day on these was an epic Utah powder day - perfect for seeing what the Auras are capable of! I thought with a fatter ski I would have to muscle through my turns more than normal, but the Volkls make it effortless even in tight trees. They float perfectly through deep powder, but are easily manageable on the groomers & bumps. I went a little shorter on these than my old skis, but they still move! These are just right for the woman who loves powder above all else, but doesn't want to buy another pair of skis for the days in between storms. Plus, they look as cool in person as they do in the picture!

SmartWool Ultra Light Skiing Sock

SmartWool Ultra Light Skiing Sock

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2006

These are the only socks I wear with my ski boots (year round). I prefer a tighter boot fit and need something thin, but high quality. These socks will last for the long haul. I just bought a second pair, but have washed & worn my other pair at least 30 ski days with no signs of wear. If you like your ski boots to feel like a pair of Uggs, definitely go with a thicker sock - otherwise, these are great for anything with a performance fit.

Great for beginners

Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 Tandem Kayak

Ocean Kayak Malibu 2 Tandem Kayak

Rating for this product: 4 December 8, 2006

We use this kayak on the coast of NC and it has been great for learning the basics of paddling. Whether you enjoy a calm day of fishing in the sound or a choppy ride on the ocean, this kayak can fit the bill. The design is great for 1 or 2 people and is very comfortable for longer trips. It is fairly lightweight, but definitely requires 2 people for transport. I've been amazed at how it performs on rough days in the ocean, but I have to admit I found out the hard way that it's heavy enough to give a concussion when flipped.

Durable, comfortable, & great performance

Patagonia Capilene 1 Bottoms - Women's

Patagonia Capilene 1 Bottoms - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2006

I don't think I can wear these out! Much of the long underwear I have bought in the past lasts a season and suddenly I'm left mending holes or throwing them in the trash. These bottoms are a great value - they wick moisture like a pro, are very comfortable on the waist & skin, and don't cost as much as some of the wool alternatives. Patagonia sizing is a bit strange for me (especially in pants). I take a smaller size in the long underwear than I do in their hiking & ski pants.

There is nothing more comfortable than capilene, so I love these for any kind of all day activities like hiking, skiing, & climbing. They don't ride up like some other underwear I've tried, but the fit on this style is a bit higher on the waist than I prefer. I am borderline S/M and ordered up on these (M) to ensure a comfortable fit.

Giro Nine.9 Helmet

Giro Nine.9 Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 December 8, 2006

I can say I've never had a cold head in this Giro helmet - even in temps way below 0 degrees. On warmer days you can remove the ear pieces (but sometimes these are tough to snap back in place). It is extremely comfortable and the ear pieces & chin strap are all made with a soft fabric to avoid any uncomfortable rubbing. I couldn't find an exact fit, though, so it helps to wear a thin hat underneath. It is also the only helmet that fits my husband's enormous head!

Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Micro Dome

Mountain Hardwear Windstopper Micro Dome

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2006

When I bought this hat I had no idea how much I would use it. It's thin enough to fit under a helmet on cold days, but warm enough to wear alone in 20+ degree weather for running, hiking, climbing, ect. I also like to wear it around town - it looks as good as any beanie I own (maybe that says something about my lack of style, though?) I've worn this hat more days than I could ever count and after washing it is like new again. This is an absolute "must have" for any gear closet.

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2006

I love this glove for spring skiing days and hiking in the fall. I have also used them as liners on extremely cold days under my mountaineering mitts. They wash very well and are durable. The fit makes it very easy to fiddle with pack adjustments, crampons, etc. Don't expect these to keep you toasty on sub 20 degree days, but on warmer days they are perfect.

Backcountry Access Alpine Trekker Adaptors

Rating for this product: 3 October 3, 2006

If you can't afford a full AT setup for the backcountry, this is a great alternative. They definitely perform as expected, but adjustments can be a bit tedious and annoying (especially when you're slope side & it's cold and windy)! The 3 levels of height adjustment are nice for differing slope degrees, but can be hard to manipulate on the fly.

My favorite piece of Arc'teryx Gear!

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2006

I noticed the other review refer to this as a great "rain jacket". While I'm sure it functions great as a rain jacket - there is SO much more it has to offer. I spent a sub -20 degree windchill, snowy day at 13k feet - winds so bad I could barely stand straight - and while every other part of me was freezing, my core stayed completely warm. The Alpah SV is in my opinion the best you can get for your dollar in the technical shell category. The design is slim fitting, but flexible enough to allow full movement for climbing, skiing, ect. Virtually zero wind gets through this jacket and the hood is large enough to fit over a helmet.

This is another great product from Arc'teryx. I've used these pants in the backcountry, skiing at resorts, & x-country skiing. They fit tighter than what I was accustomed to, but are surprisingly flexible. The bottoms fit perfectly over my ski boots with a snug inner layer to prevent any snow from entering. Despite how lightweight they are, with a just a thin layer underneath, I stay warm on most days above 15 degrees. I highly recommend this pair of pants!

Montrail Hurricane Ridge XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 11, 2006

This is my first experience with a Montrail shoe, and so far I'm very impressed. The toe box is wide, and it has a different fit than other shoes I have worn. After first putting them on I assumed I would get blisters, but they have been perfect. They have decent support in the arches, and the traction was good enough for a steep, rocky hike. I especially like the tongue design, which is not loose like other shoes. This more seamless design makes the shoes a bit harder to put on, but 100% more comfortable.

Rating for this product: 4 August 9, 2006

The Cargo Tote is a bit deceptive from the outside - at one time I have carried several books, a laptop, cords, my purse, music, and many other extras. I really liked the number of pockets available. Unfortunately, when packed to the brink, this tote isn't the easiest to carry. The straps don't have any padding and it can be a bit awkward. For lighter loads or short walks to work, this is very functional and comfortable.
