Leki poles

LEKI Tour Trekking Pole - 1 pair

LEKI Tour Trekking Pole - 1 pair

Rating for this product: 2 August 3, 2007

Although great once you've got these poles extended, getting them to tighten is a pain. I was backcountry hiking in the NC mountains and trying to get one of the poles to tighten when I just happened to run into a guy with the same poles who showed me how to adjust the poles from inside. This works about 1/2 the time. If I were to order again, I'd find some with a different locking mechanism.

Loving this bag!

Marmot Pounder Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Marmot Pounder Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 July 17, 2007

If you're allergic to down and looking for a really lightweight summer bag, this one is perfect. I still can't get over how small it is when in its stuff sack (and there's still enough room in the stuff sack for my compressible pillow and silk bag liner)! Comes with a really nice hanging/storage bag that also doubles as a great laundry bag!

keen's

KEEN Venice H2 Sandal - Women's

KEEN Venice H2 Sandal - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2007

I ordered the lime green and want a pair in every other color! Incredibly comfortable, perfect for hiking through water. Only complaint - if I'm not walking through water, the bottoms of my feet tend to get a little sweaty. Otherwise, great.

Marmot PreCip Full Zip Pant - Women's

Marmot PreCip Full Zip Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 29, 2007

Marmot makes wonderful products...and thanks to them for thinking of us tall women and making the rain pants in long!!! I rate them a 4 only because the side zippers could come up a little higher to make it a little easier to pull over my large, mid-weight boots. Kept me dry as intended, so I am very happy. Lightweight and compress quite small.

Granite Gear Round Rock Solid Compression Sack

Granite Gear Round Rock Solid Compression Sack

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

I ordered 2 large/2 small of these Granite Gear compression sacks and after a hard week in the backcountry these held up great! I have a pretty luxurious Kelty 20-degree bag, and it fit in the large no problem. I ordered a small for my clothing & could probably have gone with an extra small. Excellent product

LOVE THESE BAGS!

MSR Dromedary Bags

MSR Dromedary Bags

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

Versatile, tough, convenient, and my filter screws on! I ordered two of these (4 liter) and I'll never order another brand. I have the MSR MiniWorks filter and it screws onto this bag and Nalgene bottles (standard size). The little things make a difference with these Dromedaries - 3 ways to pour water, straps that make it easy to carry back to camp, doesn't leak at all, you can boil or freeze them, and you can set it in the sun to heat for a wonderful shower!

YUMMY!

Mary Janes Farm Organic Outrageous Outback Oatmeal

Mary Janes Farm Organic Outrageous Outback Oatmeal

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

This was an excellent breakfast in the backcountry. Not only was the oatmeal delicious, you can cook in the bag, eat out of the bag, and burn the bag...so all you have to do is wash your spork! Can't wait to try other foods of this brand...mainly for the convenience of being able to burn the bag and not carry trash.

Pretty Yummy

AlpineAire Strawberry Honey Granola with Milk

AlpineAire Strawberry Honey Granola with Milk

Rating for this product: 4 August 10, 2006

This isn't bad considering the dry milk. I liked it much better warm than cold and it does take the full 15 minutes as suggested on the bag. My only suggestion is that they make the bag burnable so you don't have to pack out the trash.

AlpineAire Chicken Gumbo

AlpineAire Chicken Gumbo

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

I ate this as my very first backcountry meal and found it to be the best one I selected. Best when it is a little cold and windy outside! Very warming, just spicy enough, and very filling. YUMMY

Was I starving or was this just really good?!?

Mountain House Lasagna with Meat Sauce - 2 Serving Entree

Mountain House Lasagna with Meat Sauce - 2 Serving Entree

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

I was very impressed with all of the Mountain House food I ordered for a recent trip (only ordered the ones with good reviews). This lasagna was very good! Would have been better with a little garlic bread, salad and wine...but considering we were in the backcountry, it was great! Suggestion to Mountain House: make your bags burnable!!!

Looks gross, but tastes great!

Mountain House Blueberry Cheesecake

Mountain House Blueberry Cheesecake

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2006

I was really hesitant about this one at first because when you mix the blueberry topping in with the cheesecake, it looks really nasty. Surprisingly, it tasted wonderful! We probably would have eaten every bite, but we got rained out after dinner and tried eating this for dessert after breakfast the next morning...a bit too sweet for breakfast. Suggestion to Mountain House: make your bags burnable!!!

Excellent trail runners

The North Face Fury Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Shoe - Women's

The North Face Fury Gore-Tex XCR Hiking Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 26, 2006

An excellent trail runner, great for those muddy puddles. I've switched to boots for long trips, but these are great for climbing approaches and shorter hikes. The only thing I don't like about them is the lack of ankle support and a slight hotspot under my big toe.

These pants rock!

The North Face Meridian Convertible Pant - Women's

The North Face Meridian Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 26, 2006

Incredibly durable. I've slid down a few rock faces in these, and no tears. So lightweight you don't even have to remove the legs when it’s hot. They are cool and dry very fast. Two suggestions: Put zippers or buttons on the outside pants seams so you can remove the bottoms without having to take off boots. Also, make the waist a little wider. I have a tiny waist and the waist is still a little too narrow for comfort while hiking. Still great though.

Excellent compass

Highgear Terra Tech Digital Compass

Highgear Terra Tech Digital Compass

Rating for this product: 5 July 6, 2006

Too bad we lost it on the first trip out! Yep, it comes with a handy neck lanyard, but it doesn't do much good if it isn't around your neck or in your pack! Liked it so much, I'm ordering another one. Other features not mentioned in the description include switching between your preferred display modes, temp can be read at C or F, two time zone options, and probably some other things I'm forgetting since it is somewhere in the NC mountains...
