I have way too much gear!!! You might say I was a gear head before becoming a sales rep for a ski company. Its ridiculous how much gear my housemate (he works for Oakley) and myself have between the two of us....8 bicycles, 2 motorcycles, lets say in the neighborhood of 15 pairs of skis and 10 snowboards (this does not count the 100 or so pairs of skis and 50 snowboards sitting in my garage that are samples, pro-stock, demo skis, whatever...) Then we could go into sunglasses and goggles which is for sure in the hundreds. We really need to have a sale in the worst kind of way. Shit is falling all over me every day...

Head Skis USA Head J.O. Pro Alpine Ski

November 5, 2009

Because of the light weight construction and quite a bit of side cut this is an extremely easy ski to ski. You don't have to be a pro to flex and turn this ski. Its an extremely versatile park ski and the J.O. is also comfortable haulin ass on the groomers too. These are REALLY fun skis.

Palmer Crown LE Snowboard

October 26, 2009

Absolutely. The Crown is the most powerful board I have ever ridden. I usually ride boards around 160cm-162cm. I am about 155 pounds and have been snowboarding for over 20 years. I used to race BoarderX so I like stiff boards. The 161cm Crown is too much board for me. A guy with a little extra leverage and body weight like yourself will find the Crown to be plenty of board. The board had 4 carbon (tip to tail) inlays and also 4 Titanium inlays running from in front (and back on the tail) of your bindings to near the contact points. The carbon and Titanium are what gives this board its power. I hope that helps.

Head Skis USA S13 Superheat 3 Ski Boot - Men's

October 14, 2009

No the S13 is pretty voluminous. I would go for the Raptor RS last from head. Its a narrow boot with much lower volume. The Mojo XP uses the RS last, so does and of the Raptor RS boots such as Raptor 120 or Raptor 100. I think backcountry.com outlet has some Mojo XP or Raptor RS. Those would be a great newer version of your Comp boots.

Head Skis USA Monster 102 Ski

October 14, 2009

Your assumptions are correct. The 102 comes from the same exact mold as the 103. The 102 is more user friendly version of the 103 which was an absolute beast. It really is the same ski but just much easier to ski. However this is still an experts only ski and in my opinion a much better ski for someone that is not a superhero like Jeremy Nobis if you know what i mean. Really big strong people that were phenomenal skiers liked the 103 but it was really TOO much ski for damn near everyone on the planet. If are not built like a linebacker you would like the 102 much better.

Head Snowboards USA Pearl Snowboard - Women's

October 14, 2009

Head makes fantastic equipment whether it be skis or a snowboard. They have been producing snowboards under the Head brand for almost 10 years now. The founders have been producing snowboard for over 25 years under various brand names. Their company was purchased by Head 10 years ago at which point they started using the Head brand. Head tends to be a little better known as a snowboard brand in Europe and than in the USA but, nonetheless the boards are well built with performance and not hype in mind. I guess what I am saying is they don't spend a ton of money on marketing which is why you maybe didn't know they were making boards. This is the 3rd season that Backcountry.com has carried the Head Pearl and it has been a great seller with many happy customers. Furthermore its a great looking board too. I hope that helps you out.

Head Skis USA Edge+ 11 SH3 Ski Boot - Men's

October 1, 2009

This is would be a great boot to take the skiing up a notch in . A true aggressive advanced skier might want something with a little less voluem. With that said if you have a wide or high volume boot then this might be good option for you. If you have low volume or skinny foot I would step up the S line such as S13 or S11.

Head Skis USA Mojo One Twin-Tip Ski

October 1, 2009

The answer is yes and no. The mojo one (same skis as the JO Pro but without the pro model surcharge) will be discountinued for 2010 and that construction will be replaced with a new construction designed by Jon Olsson. That new construction is featured in the Bullet TT and the JO Pro. One note however is that the 2010 GE (Grete Eliason) pro model is the same construction as the 09 Mojo One and JO Pro. So that is why I said yes and no. The 2010 GE Pro is the same as the 09 Mojo One. Hope that helps

Head Skis USA Supermojo 105 Twin-Tip Alpine Ski

October 1, 2009

If you are an expert skier at 185 pounds you can handle the 191. However if you like to make lots of short turns or get into tight trees a lot you might consider the shorter ski and mount yourself 1 or 2cm back from the suggested mounting point. This will help keep the tips up in powder and also give you more ski out in front of you which at your weight will be beneficial. you are about at the top of my recommened weight scale for the 181cm for aggressive skiers. If you are less aggressive skier then it changes a little. For example I would put a 60 year old 200 pound man on the 181cm. I hope that helps

Head Skis USA Head J.O. Pro Alpine Ski

October 1, 2009

If I remember correctly there are three mounting points labeled on the ski. i would use the middle of the three which will be a sweet spot between dead center mounted and 3cm back of center all mountain type skiing.

why wear anything else

Under Armour Short Boxer Jock - Men's

Under Armour Short Boxer Jock - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2009

These are the most comfortable underwear I have ever owned. The biggest bonus is I wear them for everything. I previously had boxers for everyday, and an assortment of Patagonia type briefs for skiing or outdoors activities. These work better than anything I have ever had...for all conditions. They are not too tight in the junk for everyday wear like most briefs. I am in the process of getting rid of all my other underwear. So far the durability has been great but I got my first couple of pairs about 6 months ago so its a little early to tell yet on that front.

Intelligence AK

Head Snowboards USA Intelligence AK Snowboard

Head Snowboards USA Intelligence AK Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

I am the sales rep for Head snowboards but I want to give you a little idea of what how this board rides. It really rides a lot like a traditional all mt. board except that it is tuned to out perform a traditional all mt. board in powder. The AK has a medium flex to it but, with the Intelligence technology it stiffens up on hard snow making for unbelievable torsional stiffness which helps it grip on edge (If you are not familiar with Intelligence there is a video on Youtube under 'Head intelligence snowboards') So in that sense it is a lot like our Intelligence I.CT. However, this board is just slightly tapered (2mm) in the tail and the tail length (off the snow portion of the tail) is shortened by 2 cm. That 2cm is added to the nose of the board which gives the AK a longer nose profile than our I.CT. The combination of the slightly tapered tail and shorter tail means less leaning back in pow. Essentially this means you will have to fight your tail less to keep your nose up on those big pow days. The longer nose keeps the board on top of the snow. Don't think of this board as a powder only board however. I actually raced in the Mt. Baker Banked Slalom on this board in Feb 2007 and it was awesome. The AK makes for a awesome everyday board for the all mountain ripper person who rides 90% forward and 10% switch or less. Its an everyday board that also rips in powder like a real powder board.

Head Intelligence I.CT = power when you want it

Head Snowboards USA I.CT Intelligence Snowboard

Head Snowboards USA I.CT Intelligence Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

I am the sales rep for Head Snowboards. I want to give everyone an idea of what the Head Intelligence I.CT is capable of. This is really one of the easiest riding and best performing boards available today. Its hard to believe that anyone can make a board that is easy to ride and also has an extremely high level of performance packed into it. The Intelligence Chip Technology makes this possible. Head did not develop this technology as it comes from the military. Honestly its practically rocket science. But what Intelligence allows you to do make a board that in soft snow is easy to ride, forgiving, and torsionally softer. You can actually relax on this board. However, in hard snow and at high speeds the board practically turns into a race board. This is the most versatile board on the market. You could race a boardercross one run and then go teach a lesson for a first time rider on the same board. The I.CT is also the same board that Clif Dimon won the North Face Masters at Snowbird Feb 10, 2008. Clif had basically been retired for a few years when decided to go compete in this comp as there was a nice $$$ prize. He killed it. He has also won the Crested Butte Extremes on this board several times before taking a break for a couple of years. If you want more info about he Intelligence Chip technology just go to youtube and search 'head intelligence snowboards'. One other mention is the board has the hardest and fastest base material money can buy. Notice that there are no fancy die-cuts on the running surface of the base on the I.CT. This is to maximize the speed capabilities on this board as its a popular board for boarder X.

Platinum is for real

Palmer Platinum LE Snowboard

Palmer Platinum LE Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

I am the sales rep for Palmer Snowboards and Head Snowboards. Sorry Rob Connor but, the distributor for Palmer snowboards previous to last season is no longer around. Head is now doing the distribution in the USA for Palmer boards. They carry a two year warranty and if you contact Head you should have no problem as long as what you say is true. Now here is the scoop on the Platinum board. Three days ago I had the chance to put my hands on Shaun Palmers brand new World Cup race boards (Shaun pays big $$$ for each and every one of these hand made boards) at Rennstall tuning shop in Park City UT. Andy is the board tech for the US Boarder X team and he just happened to be working on the boards when I was in there. Anyhow, Shauns personal boards just like these Platinums are hand made by Hans Kessler in a tiny factory in Switzerland. I had a chance to take a close look at Shaun's boards and they feature the Klothoid tip and tail shape. The best way to think of this is decambered tip and tails. Yes this board has camber but, until you are carving in a turn and really bending the board, the far reaches of the tip and tail (contact points) remain off the snow. What does this mean? The board is more forgiving and actually creates less drag (friction) when initiating a turn. It moves the turn initiation from the very front of the contact points back about 6 inches from where you would expect to be turning the board from. It creates a ride that is much more forgiving. You never feel like you will catch an edge. However when you are hauling ass and bending the board in a carve it feels like any other board and the entire edge at that point is in the snow for maximum edge hold. Now this board has no fiberglass in it. It has carbon laminates in place of fiberglass that you find in every other snowboard. Carbon happens to me very progressive in its power distribution. The more you put into it the more you get out of it. Its also extremely light. With that said this board is not going to make a very good freestyle board due to its powerful nature. It is an unbelievable all mountain board for accomplished riders who want to put the pedal to the metal and like maximum power. If you are doing any kind of racing this is the best board on the planet. Fastest base, fastest shape available, period! I rode this board at Snowbasin last february and i was completely blown away by how much power it has when you want the power. It guess it would be like driving an Audi V12 in the city. You might just have to hold back a bit because its so fast you could find yourself in trouble.

Northwave Bike Vertigo Cycling Shoe - Women's

May 16, 2008

You can use mt. biking shoes for road riding but, because of the slick sole on road shoes I would not recommend road shoes for mt. biking. the only drawback on mt. bike shoes is that there is often more material at the toe of the shoe and depending on your set up when turning your front wheel your tire can actually end up rubbing on your the toe of shoe when your pedals are horizontal. It hasn't turned out to be a big problem for me because unless you are going really slow you usually are not turning sharp enough to make this happen.

Lisa Beck (Head Team Rider) reflects on the Fountain

Head Snowboards USA Fountain I. Snowboard - Women's

Head Snowboards USA Fountain I. Snowboard - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 September 6, 2007

"I like how the Fountain is flexible and easy to ride but still has everything i need for progressive riding. It is built for the needs of a woman who wants to do powerful snowboarding in park, powder, groomers, ice...anything really. Plus the graphic design is really nice and mature but still playful.
I expect a lot from my equipment and the Fountain and the PX Fay binding exceed my expectations and in addition to that they are very beautifully designed. Not only does the board look great but it is the best board and binding combo I have ever ridden." Lisa Beck, Head Snowboards International Team rider. Eric Themel talks about his board design

Head Snowboards USA I.CT Intelligence Premium Eric Themel Snowboard

Head Snowboards USA I.CT Intelligence Premium Eric Themel Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 September 6, 2007

My HEAD ICT Premium is built for every terrain possible. With its remarkable shape and my own design it’s made for fun. Different elements like powder, park and pipe are the boards home. To explain the board in simple ways: Nose and Tail are almost the same in radius and kick. The only difference to a pure Twin Tip board is it’s Pintail. The board is made for tall guys like me who don’t want to switch boards every day. With the rail system it is easy to switch the stance with one tool. Use setback in powder or center the stance for park riding. Or just find a medium stance for everything.

Though the board loves powder, with the twin shape it is fun to cruise around switch and land 5’s or more and ride out...even in powder. The board is made for everyone and everybody who is tired of switching boards every 10 minutes. So take it and enjoy it at it’s best.
