Patagonia Black Hole Duffle 90 - 5500cu in

June 22, 2009

Not a chance, these are really big bags. Of course, if you pack it half full and strap it down, maybe, but this bag was meant to be what it's called -- a black hole for ALL your gear.

The North Face Base Camp Duffel Bag - 250 - 9070cu in

April 20, 2009

Has anyone carried this bag as a backpack very far? Is it comfortable? Is there a different model/brand duffel that is comfortable to carry as a backpack, say 1/4mi?

Patagonia Black Hole Duffle 110 - 6700cu in

April 20, 2009

Highly unlikely. The max for a carry-on is about 2600cu/in (Patagonia's Maximum Legal Carry-on -- and that one won't work if you stuff it). This is 6700, so if you packed it less than half-full then compressed it with straps it might work. But if you want a bag to carry on frequently, this is not your guy.

Awesome Jacket

Castelli Leggerezza Cycling Jacket - Men's DO NOT USE

Castelli Leggerezza Cycling Jacket - Men's DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2009

This is a really great jacket. The windproofness is so useful becasue it takes away the wind chill factor when riding. Here in Tucson, the mornings are cold, but the days warm up fast -- so I zip off the sleeves and I'm perfect! Plus the quality and fit is excellent. Remember this is Castelli Italian sizing though -- go with the chart. I'm a large in Pearl Izumi and an XXL in Castelli...

Mountainsmith Modular Hauler System Plus

January 19, 2009

The cubes are made of a plastic coated nylon, so they would handle a splash or drizzle, but they are generally not waterproof. There is a dry cube that is like a drybag -- totally waterproof, and a cooler cube that has a waterproof liner as well.

The best

Western Mountaineering Puma Gore WS Sleeping Bag: -25 Degree Down

Western Mountaineering Puma Gore WS Sleeping Bag: -25 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2008

Phenomenal bag. Used this in up to -40F on Aconcagua and was always comfortable, even too warm often and had to unzip a bit. Was comfortable and the least painful place to be when you wake up with an altitude headache! Like all WM bags, it packs way smaller and lighter than it should for its size/warmth. Construction is absolutely best in class. I am 6'5" and the 6'6" model fits great.

It will only work on fizik saddles because it requires the socket under the seat to snap in to.

Solid Softshell

Cloudveil Rayzar Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Rayzar Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2008

This is a great softshell ski jacket. The Schoeller fabric works great as usual, the arms are nice and long, good pocket placement and quality construction. The hem fall right at my waist, but I'm 6'5" so it's probably has a bit more overlap for most. There is room for a midweight top underneath, but I would say the fit is trim.

Great softshell

Cloudveil Rayzar Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Rayzar Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2008

Top-notch skiing and around-town softshell. Usual cloudveil quality, and the schleller fabric works great as always. Arms are nice and long, and pocket placement is helpfully out of the way of movement. I find the hem falls just below my belt, but I'm 6'5" so it's probably a bit longer on most. There's probably enough room for a heavyweight capilene underneath, but I would call it pretty trim otherwise. Definitely too trim for a fleece jacket.

CW-X Pro Tights - Men's

August 28, 2008

the cw-x "ventilator" tights might be a better bet -- they're made to provide similar support, but designed for hot weather.
