Best All Around Snowshoe

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe

MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoe

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2008

I purchased a 22-inch pair (currently 160 lbs) after renting a number of different brands. Clearly the best I've tried. I have the first model out with 2 strap bindings and they are great. I can only imagine the 3 strap binding will be as good or better. On hard pack and there is nothing better this side of a crampon. In deep powder everything is a challenge and there is little difference between climbing on these and my powder tele skis - descending is a different story! If you enjoy snowshoeing, grab a pair. They will really add to your experience. Durable? - I'd take these things anywhere.

Excellent fleece

Patagonia R1 Flash Fleece Pullover - Mens

Patagonia R1 Flash Fleece Pullover - Mens

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2008

This is likely the most versatile piece of outdoor (and indoor) gear I own. It layers well with anything, cotton T for casual wear or a capilene base layer for active sports. A real advantage of this material is the warmth/breathability/weight factor, I've worn nothing better.

Couldn't find a better fleece!

Marmot Afterburner Fleece Jacket - Men's

Marmot Afterburner Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2008

I bought this jacket on sale only because I was looking for a windblock fleece and it seemed to fit well and feel good. I had no feelings one way or another for this particular jacket. It has quickly become my favorite. The other reviews for this jacket really capture the pluses for outdoor conditions. The incredible thing for me is just how soft and warm this coat is regardless of the conditions. In cases where a hard shell is not needed this jacket is the first thing I grab. The fit? A bit more roomy than some technical fleeces but I'd rather have a shell that fits this way than other form fitting (read movement restrictive) jackets on the market.

Perfect weight and warmth

Patagonia R1 Pant - Men's

Patagonia R1 Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2008

Perfect for a base layer under heavy gortex shell for skiing or as a running tight in moderately cold weather. They are tights rather than pants in the sense they are form fitting but are not so overly tight that they would make a person feel self conscious when worn alone for running.
