Metolius Curve Hex Alpine Packaged Set
March 29, 2008
This is a nice set of hexes in the larger size range. The sewn runners provide a nice touch too. The curved sides and asymmetric geometry give you several placement options, and make it easier to find a way to fit the hex in around an obstruction.

does a nice job
Outdoor Research Option Balaclava
December 21, 2007
Works well as a light weight option. Hard to breath through if you pull it up over your mouth or nose. It works best when the opening goes from your chin to your forhead.

Marmot Cirque Down Jacket - Men's
April 22, 2007
Not a bad jacket. The stitch through construction means there are cold spots along the stitching, plus it makes the jacket a bit puffy looking. The hood didn't provide all the coverage I was looking for. The length was a good intermediate between a jacket and a parka. the grey was a nice color. Ended up exchanging it for the MHW SubZero Parka which I like a lot better.

Too short, too little down
Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's
April 22, 2007
I tried this one on but the length was a bit too short, and I'm a short guy. Probably ok for around town, but if it gets windy on the mountain I would be wishing for better coverage. I also found the down insulation in the arms to be quite thin... thought maybe it was a bad item, returned it for another, and found it had the same problem. I ended up going with the Mountain Hardware Sub zero PARKA which seemed to address all those concerns and is a really nice parka!

Nice one!
Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's
March 17, 2007
Haven't had it for long but the PreCip is really hydrophobic and sheds water easily. The rain beads up on the shell in a nearly perfect sphere. I like the pitzips, those'll surely come in handy. This jacket is so light and compressible that it is easy to throw it in my bag and take it anywhere I'm going just in case the weather gets wet.
