I'm a weekend warrior that can't' live without the mountains. I take every opportunity I get to be outside. Backcountry? Even better. Off the beaten path is where all the really good stuff is. Makes office work much easier to bare. Full disclosure: I work for Liberty Media, but these contributions are my own.

MSR SweetWater Purifier System

July 27, 2011

On Denali, we of course had no water to filter, but we melted water and added drops. No problems- except the person who didn't use drops got sick. I agree with others, if I think there are other people around my water source, I use the drops too. If it's pretty pristine, say back in the wilderness, I sometimes just filter. It's a judgement call, but other people are the most likely contaminate. If they are around, so are their germs.

Marathon (and Marathon Training) Fuel

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews - 12 Pack

Honey Stinger Organic Energy Chews - 12 Pack

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2011

I tried all the different energy gummies training for my marathon and ended up with the stingers. They were easy to eat (each gummy is a little smaller than say a shot block) , very tasty, and gave me a boost. I liked the cherry the best, but fruit smoothie and pomegranate were good too.

Indispensible Dress On the Fly

GoLite Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress - Women's

GoLite Cayambe Reversible Travel Dress - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 26, 2011

This is the dress I throw in the bottom of my bag in case I need to throw something on and look half-descent. It's reversible, so lots of options, it's very lightweight and comfortable (love go lite) and it always comes out looking nice. I also bought one that is black/magenta, and I wear it more often because black goes with everything. I take it to the beach, to the pool, when I travel, it's a great option.

I've been giving these as gifts for years

GoLite VO24 Backpack - 1281cu in

GoLite VO24 Backpack - 1281cu in

Rating for this product: 4 April 1, 2011

AFter I bought one, the next year I bought them as gifts. Everyone loved them. They are perfect for day hikes or just a day outing. Perfect for just right amount of stuff. It does have a very soft back, no support, so if you put something sharp in the back, it will poke you until you fix it.

Grivel G12 Crampon

Grivel G12 Crampon

Rating for this product: 4 March 3, 2011

I've had these crampons for more than 10 years and they are still kicking. I've had them on Rainier, Denali and Aconcagua with no problems. Works great over Koflach boots, which they don't make anymore (very sad), but highly adjustable and fits a wide range of boot sizes.

Rainier tested and approved - but think about the zipper

GoLite Adrenaline Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

GoLite Adrenaline Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2011

I bought this bag in anticipation of a Rainier summit bid. It was definitely warm enough and it packs down well. I would choose it again for mountaineering, but think hard about how far the zipper comes down. I was tired and cold, so being a mummy was ok, but it doesn't offer much room in the knees. I love that the bottom has some added snow resistance (the gray part) and the loops are great for hanging it up in the off-season. I got a regular, but I'm an average sized woman (I had plenty of room everywhere but the knees). Overall I recommend, but I wish they hadn't cut weight by shortening the zipper, limits my venting options.

GoLite Calamity Jane Skirt - Women's

GoLite Calamity Jane Skirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2011

I agree with previous reviewers that this is a short skirt. I've worn it biking, running, and playing ultimate frisbee. I can't stand being too hot, this is a great choice for warm weather. I gave it four stars because I really like the solid black better, purely a color preference.

Adds warmth, totally beat my expectations

Sea To Summit Reactor Thermolite Sleeping Bag Liner

Sea To Summit Reactor Thermolite Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2011

I took this to Aconcagua to add some warmth to my -20 bag on cold nights after experiences being too cold on other mountains. It was perfect, low weight and great performance. Highly recommend for mountaineers or anyone looking to add some warmth insurance.

Great for in-town or on the mountain

GoLite Demaree Canyon 800 Down Jacket - Women's

GoLite Demaree Canyon 800 Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 11, 2011

I have this jacket in another color - brown, and I love it. It's fitted and very attractive. I've had a number of complements on it and it goes with everything. I live in Colorado so I wear it three seasons. I will say when it's really cold out, below freezing or so, I often use it in conjunction with my other golite down jacket for double layering. I also use this jacket with a wind layer for skiing because it's not to bulky and plenty warm. Well-designed, good product, highly recommend.

GoLite Breton 650 Down Travel Trench Coat - Women's

December 12, 2010

I agree. I wear a size 10 pant as well and the medium is nicely fitted. If my hips were much bigger I'd go with the large.

I wear this coat everywhere

GoLite Breton 650 Down Travel Trench Coat - Women's

GoLite Breton 650 Down Travel Trench Coat - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2010

I live in Colorado where a warm coat is essential. This is my go-to coat. It's warm and very stylish. I've received many complements wearing it. It also has nice pocket liners for your hands and the button or zip option is great. I have the red, medium and it's a good fit and flattering cut. The trench style is great because it keeps your back and butt warm.
