Smith Challenger OTG Junior Series Goggles - Youth

Smith Challenger OTG Junior Series Goggles - Youth

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2009

I ordered these for my 7-year-old. They fit well onto his helmet, and are adjustable. The lens color is supposed to be good for all-around/general skiing conditions and offers good UV protection. My son tells me that they are comfortable on his face!

Narrow

Chaco Z/1 Sandal - Boys'

Chaco Z/1 Sandal - Boys'

Rating for this product: 3 January 9, 2009

I purchased these for my sons (7 and 10) 1/09 on sale. I bought them a size larger than what they wore in Sept. hoping that they fit this summer. They seem a bit narrow. This is great for my older son, as his feet are very narrow. But they are a bit tight and long on my younger son. They are a good price, so I am keeping them in the hopes that his foot grows. But, I don't know about the narrowness. There is no way to adjust the width over the top of the foot

Fit Right - Fun Style

KEEN Zerraport Sandal - Kid's

KEEN Zerraport Sandal - Kid's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2009

I bought these in 1/09 on sale, for my sons (Ages 7 and 10) to wear this summer. I bought them a size larger than what they wore last Sept (9/08). I think they will fit well. They fit now, with room to grow. My older son loved the style. I like that they offer toe protection and can be worn in the water. They'll be perfect for hiking along the river and river rafting this summer. They can also be worn around the pool and for general summer activities. The current sale price is a good value. The arrived within 2 days of ordering - and that was with a free shipping code!

Warm and Soft

SmartWool Ski Racer Sock - Kids'

SmartWool Ski Racer Sock - Kids'

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2009

I ordered these for my 10-year-old son in black. He is ALWAYS cold. But, these socks keep his feet warm when he skis. They are soft, cool looking, and warm. They stay up around his calf, too. He used to complain about his toes and hands being cold. (Now he only complains about his hands.)

Great Basic Ski/Snow Pant

Spyder Action Pant - Boys'

Spyder Action Pant - Boys'

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

These pants just arrived in the mail and I'm REALLY happy! They fit my 10-year-old son perfectly! They have an adjustable waist, which really helps with fit. I was a bit unsure whether to purchase a size 8 or 10, because he is currently a perfect size 9. (Some size 10 regular pants are WAY too long, while some size 8's are WAY to short! Sears sells some regular pants in boys size, 9 and those fit my son perfectly.) But, for ski pants I had to choose between a size 8 or 10. So, I checked the size charts of several different brands of ski pants here on Backcountry.com. They really helped. For some brands the inseams were longer on the size 10. For my son, the inseams for Spyder ski pants, seamed like they might fit with boots on. So, I took a chance and they fit great! I HIGHLY recommend checking the size charts before ordering - they are a great help. Theses pants are also great because, in addition to the adjustable waist, the length can be extended when your child grows. So, I know these pants will fit for at least 2 winters (maybe 3).

Runs Small

Spyder Fire Hat - Boys'

Spyder Fire Hat - Boys'

Rating for this product: 3 October 17, 2008

I bought this hat for my 7-year-old and it barely fits. It just covers the very tops of his ears, which is fine much of the time, but won't "cut it" on really cold, windy days. My son really likes the cool flames and how the spider stands out (in higher relief than the rest of the hat), so I plan to keep it. But, I'm a bit bummed that he won't get more than one season out of it. My son probably has a big head like his father, but I would estimate that this hat would fit preschool through grade 2, and not much higher. This hat only comes in one size, so buyers don't have much choice.

Warm and Cozy

Columbia Snow Day Winter Boot - Boys'

Columbia Snow Day Winter Boot - Boys'

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

These boots arrived in the mail the other day, and when my 10-year-old son tried them on he was really happy. He said that they were very comfortable and light (last year's Lands End boots were heavy!) He also really likes that they simply slip on and off (with a velcro strap for tightening at the ankle) because he dislikes having to tie laces or secure clasps, etc. At this price, these boots are a great value, as well. They'll be perfect for stomping around the playground this winter and for wearing to the ski hill on weekends.

I bought this hat for my now 10-year-old son 2 years ago, when he was 8. He LOVES it! He's worn it for 2 winters and it still fits. It still looks great, too. It stretches and is warm!

Smaller than Expected

CamelBak Skeeter Hydration Pack - Kids'

CamelBak Skeeter Hydration Pack - Kids'

Rating for this product: 3 July 30, 2008

I bought this for my 7 and 9 year old sons. They LOVE it, but it doesn't hold much water. The tag states that this Camelbak's capacity is 35 oz. or 1 L, but it seems smaller than that. It states that this Camelbak weighs 2.9 lbs. filled and measures 12" X 7" X 1". I wish I had been aware of the measurements and capacity before I purchased this pack, because I would have purchased a larger Camelbak instead. The tag states that this pack is for ages 5 and up, but I feel that kids who are 7 and up need a hydration system with a larger capacity. This Camelback is probably perfect for kids 6 and under.

Small Perfect for Kids

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Z-Lite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 July 30, 2008

I bought the small size for each of my children (ages 7 & 9) to take to camp. They are on the short side - both the boy's feet hang off the end. But, the pads are light and easy to pack. My boys don't mind their feet hanging off. And, the price was great!
