Amazing Helmet

POC Skull Light Helmet

POC Skull Light Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2010

Gotta love Swedish design. The helmet is great: super lightweight but still super solid feeling and very comfortable in cold and warm temps.

The hard shell of the helmet is minimalist and protects you everywhere that is needed. Other parts of the helmet are constructed from pliable but stiff foam that will keep you safe, comfortable, and warm. The non-shell materials are also snug to keep the helmet from shifting--no need to make the chinstrap ridiculously tight, in other words. Ventilation is smart as well; the vents work well to blow air over your head, keeping your dome dry and cool.

Amazing helmet, totally recommend it.

Decent bag, with major shortfalls

The North Face Chugach 14 Backpack - 850cu in

The North Face Chugach 14 Backpack - 850cu in

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

The Chugach is a decent bag with some pretty nice features. Hydration sleeve is well designed and the pack is decently comfortable even on a chairlift, but it is only very good on-piste or in the sidecountry.

Unfortunately, the ski carrying is system (and everything else) is limited by size. Any ski wider than 90mm or so will not fit in the ski carrying system. I have Volkl Mantras and they don't even come close to fitting. Also, snowboard straps will piss off most skiers as they get in the way of fully opening the bag. Also, expect to fit only goggles, gloves, a midlayer, hydration, and some personal items. This bag is very small.

DAKINE Heli Pro 16L Backpack - 1000cu in

I have had problems in the past with bags that only fit narrower skis; how wide is the ski carrying loop on this?

Dynafit ZZeus TF-X Ski Boot - Men's

November 29, 2008

How long does it take to change the outsoles? Is it reasonably fast that I could do it between ascent/descent? Or is it a night-before type activity?

Dynafit ZZeus TF-X Ski Boot - Men's

November 29, 2008

The ZZeus TF-X has, as most high performance boots do, a narrow last, narrower than the BD Factor. I have a narrow foot, so I found it relatively comfortable. I tried both the BD Factor and ZZeus, and I have weird feet, but I found slightly more toebox room and less instep room in the Dynafits than in the BDs. Hope this was helpful.

The North Face Arctic Jacket - Girls'

October 14, 2008

Ounce for ounce, down insulation is warmer. But there are other benefits to synthetic insulation, for example it dries much more quickly than down and is also much cheaper for how much insulation you're getting.
