Not the boots they used to be.

Merrell Wilderness Backpacking Boot - Men's

Merrell Wilderness Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 July 31, 2011

I just returned these after only wearing them three or four times. The boot leaked like a sieve around the instep after walking through several stream beds. The boot lost its shape as well. I had a pair of these years ago and was very happy but today's boot is of poor construction. The boot is probably great for around town but not on the trail. I hike a lot of rough terrain and the boot simply not up to its name.

Rice Merchant

Kavu Chillba Hat

Kavu Chillba Hat

Rating for this product: 5 June 28, 2011

I got this hat to use at the beach when I go surfing. When I show up in California at Dana Point every year, the guys say, hey, the rice merchant is here again this year. The hat floats and has plenty of ventilation. As already said, it is a conversation piece; however, I don't know if it is a bird puller.

An Essential Piece of Outerwear

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Vest - Men's

Mountain Hardwear WindStopper Tech Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 21, 2011

I think this is the most important piece of clothing in my closet. I am a layering freak because I sweat so heavily. I can wear this over my Cap-1 tee shirt and Cap-3 pullover followed by my Mountain Hardwear Berrillyum Shell. I keep a Patagonia Nano jacket if it is cold. I found I can hike with the vest get plenty of wind protection, warmth and movement with the vest. Everyone should have this vest in their pack
