Backcountry Access Aluminum Crystal Card

Take an avalanche safety course if you haven't already done so. Don't rely on gear instructions to educate yourself. You need to practice. Is it useful? Yes. But it depends what type of backcountry skiing you're doing. For day trips, probably not as much as multi-day tours.

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

I've got a Big Agnes "Lost Ranger" bag. Will the Large size fit this bag? Any thoughts on this pad versus the Big Agnes Air Core? Thanks!

Marker Duke 16 Ski Binding
November 28, 2009
Duke or Fritschi? I've got a pair of Fritschis now and I like them. Putting together a second AT setup and am considering the Duke. Or should I stick with Fritschi? Thanks!
@Shane: Thanks for the feedback. Fritschi's are on a pair of Armada ARVs. Used to be on a pair of Havocs, but I like the ARVs better. Looking at getting a pair of Armada JJs for the deep stuff and want AT bindings for these as well. Honestly, I don't care about weight as much as I do about durability and build quality. I'll take an extra pound or two any day if the product is bomber. So, for the JJ, what would you suggest, Duke or Fritschi? Or should I just go for a Dynafit setup and get it over with? :)

Armada JJ Ski

What AT bindings would you recommend for the JJ? I've got Freerides on my ARVs, but the brakes aren't wide enough for the JJ. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Armada JJ Alpine Ski
April 4, 2009
I'd like some opinions. These skis look sweet. I got turned on to Armada last year and love my ARVs. Now I'm looking for something for the backcountry, something fat. Considering the ARGs, but these look great too. Any thoughts? Mostly ski the Sierra, fyi. Thanks in advance!

Mountain Hardwear Skyledge 2.1 Tent 2-Person 3-Season
August 26, 2008
Good question! I have an older Skyledge 2 and love it. I recently bought a Skyledge 3 and am not impressed. Everything from the footprint to the tent itself feels far less durable. Furthermore, on my first night out in the new tent, one of the poles split in half. The older Skyledge 2 poles (red, not gray) seem far more durable to me. Needless to say, I'm looking for another tent...
