The NYX is great!

Marmot NyxTent 2-Person 3-Season

Marmot NyxTent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 August 30, 2007

I have used the NYX as a solo tent for 2 seasons and have had no problems at all. I have camped in the Appalachians in heavy rain, sleet, moderate snow and very gusty wind (I can't seem to pick a weekend with great weather). The tent has never leaked, dripped, ripped, bent or swayed. Besides being bombproof, it is very spacious and comfortable. Setup is easy, and the weight is only 4-1/2 lbs. I'm an habitual tent trader, but I have no reason to look elsewhere for an outstanding lightweight tent.

Very good stove

MSR SimmerLite Stove

MSR SimmerLite Stove

Rating for this product: 4 March 22, 2006

I use the Simmerlite as a cold weather alternative to my Coleman Extreme canister stove. The Simmerlite performs as advertised. The folks who are having trouble simmering probably have the unit over-pressurized. I start with only 8-10 strokes of the pump. I prime the bowl by opening the valve one turn for 3 sec and closing quickly. I light it, let it flare and then die out. I immediately crack (just barely) the valve and re-light. I get a nice gentle blue flame. I then pump a few strokes as needed, but certainly not the 20-25 strokes suggested in the instruction manual (unless I am in a huge hurry to boil water and not interested in turn-down). This technique works for me every time.

Great tent for roomy solo

Marmot NYX Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Marmot NYX Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 March 10, 2006

I use the NYX as a solo tent. I may sacrifice 1-1/2 lbs over a true solo unit, but the extra room is more than worth it. I can easily store all my gear within the tent and/or vestibule, and I have plenty or room for changing clothes. Ample headroom is a strong feature of this tent. I have used the NYX on 4 outings in the Blueridge Mountains. Conditions included significant rain, snow and ice. Temps dropped under 20F. The tent remained very taut, even under a load of ice and snow. Due to the steep sides (which afford greater interior space), precip accumulations were minimized. The tent is well vented, so condensation is not an issue. Fit and finish are top notch (what you would expect from Marmot). An all-around winner.
