Norrøna /29 Flex2 Full-Zip Hooded Softshell Jacket - Men's

Norrøna /29 Flex2 Full-Zip Hooded Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 October 26, 2009

It's my follow-up review on this soft shell (have no idea what happed to firdt review). So here we go, I took it on a trip to Scotland for 2 weeks, mid October.
Pros: Well constructed, comfortable, LONG, or at least longer that most jackets, nice hood.
Cons: Not water resistant at all, got completely soaked within 10 mins in light drizzle, had to turn around during hike and use eVent shell instead, not wind resistant either.
So, bottom line: if you are willing to pay hard earned money for just another polyester hoody, go ahead, otherwise get Backcountry brand or Arcteryx, you won't be cursing and guessing why did you buy it.

Yakima LoadWarrior

March 1, 2009

It depends on total weight of load you gonna carry. Factory racks don't support more than 100lb total weight, including your Load Warrior. If you get yakima bars, they will carry 200lb. so decision is yours

Great product from OR

Outdoor Research Elixir Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Elixir Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 26, 2008

Another great product from OR. This jacket is light, sipmlpe and very versatile. Tru to size, has enough room for layers. Nice hood, not too large (please note, it's NOT helmet compatible), lots of adjustments, rolls up nicely into collar. Storm flap construction is nice, great zipper, solid fabric, feels beefy even for PacLite. Only one thing: if you have hood rolled up into collar and zip jacjet all the way up, it will be very tight around neck. Minor discomfort, but needed to be mentioned.

It breaths !!!!

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2008

OK, here you go, I have tested it and writing short report, it should help.
Testing conditions:
Temp 75F
Humidity 46%
Conditions: sunny, clear
Walking speed 3.4 mph
DIstance 4 miles
Terrain: flat
Pack weight: 30 lbs
I did this short hike in completely zipped up jacket with cuffs veclros closed tight. I got wet only on my back, front (where packs buckle was) and minor in armpits. Normally you wouldn't wear jacket in such weather, but I wanted to check how it breaths, and it DOES. Far better than any Gore-Tex, and I've tried Pro-Shell, Paclite, etc.
As far as sizing - go one size up from your normal, it has athletic cut. Upper body fabric is burlier than sleeves/body for backpack usage.

For manufacturers note: pockets on this jacket are on your waist line, whicj means they are completely obstructed with waistbelt of your pack. Might want to move them higher in next model.

Hope this helps.

Good idea, bad execution

Dansko Carson Shoe - Men's

Dansko Carson Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 September 10, 2008

Well, when you put them on, they are true to size and feel very comfortable, great materilas and style, BUT liner doesn't dry even overnight after wearing those shoes for 2 days straight. It definetely absorbs moisture (as description says) but then keeps it there, sucks. Next, the way tongue is made, it will get water inside shoe even in very light rain, so those $130 shoes can only be worn indoors, 3-4 hours max and try not to sweat. If you are a chef (like me), don't buy them, get regular clogs or smth else.

Black Diamond Bbee Backpack - 732cu in

Black Diamond Bbee Backpack - 732cu in

Rating for this product: 4 September 10, 2008

Great pack, sturdy, highly packable, so you can take it on long trip as a "daypack", but no extra pockets period and too small. Shell out extra $5 and get Magnum from same manufacturer.

Too large for backpacking trips

Sea To Summit Premium Cotton Travel Liner w/ Pillow Slip

Sea To Summit Premium Cotton Travel Liner w/ Pillow Slip

Rating for this product: 3 September 10, 2008

Here you go: 2.5 times larger than same made of silk. And probably 2 times heavier. Of course you have to pay twice money for silk, but if you backpacking around Europe, you killer will be vulume, then weight. So think twice.

Leaks, Don't fit car or bike cage

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - .75L

Rating for this product: 2 September 10, 2008

What can I say, for $13 this bottle should have been done a whole lot better, it leaks upside-down, laying on it's side and so on. If you willing to pay this money just to have Camelbak and look cool, go ahead, but don't ges pissed, when your car seat will be wet just because you left this bittle there for a couple hours. They definetely have to work on that valve.

Great fleece, but...

Marmot Afterburner Fleece Jacket - Men's

Marmot Afterburner Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 7, 2008

Great piece of equipment if you don't mind it being bulky. Fits true to size, if you want use layers under, order next size up. Light, sleeves are "normal" length, comparing to those new technical shells and climbing jackets that feel like they were built for monkeys. Great service with this company as usual.

Good jacket, but some issues

Mountain Hardwear Nemesis Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Nemesis Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2008

Great piece of equipment if you don't mind it being too small even through MHW sizing chart. Fits small, smaller than usual MHW gear, you want to order next size up. Light, sleeves are "normal" length, even a bit too short, comparing to those new nowadays technical shells and climbing jackets that feel like they were built for monkeys. Thick woven front, decent wind resistance. Athletic cut, so if you got pot belly, go with diff brand or jacket.

Awesome but you gotta move in it...

Arc'teryx Gamma SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Gamma SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 7, 2008

Great jacket, fits tight, not much space for layering under. Fabric quality great, good name Arc'teryx, not sure if it's worth the money, you really should have necessity to buy this jacket, a bit useless on cold days if you are in town, not on a hike or climb. Anyway, use it for what it was made for, don't buy it just as another cool looking piece for your wardrobe.

The best light backpack out there

Arc'teryx Needle 35 Backpack - 2014-2258 cu in

Arc'teryx Needle 35 Backpack - 2014-2258 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2008

This was the best best backpack I ever bought. Perfect size for 2-3 days hikes or small trips. Filled to capacity small enough to use as carry-on on most airlines (still you want to double check) so it won't get damaged and tossed around. Sits close to torso, low top so you don't have to look down all the time, very sturdy material. Funky hydration pocket (I can't fit my CamelBak bladder in it, so it's kinda useless), overall the best out there. If you need size up, look ant Needle 45.

Icebreaker Superfine190 Tech T - Men's

Icebreaker Superfine190 Tech T - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2008

Great t-shirt, but looses shape after a couple of months of use. As always unbelievable fabric, doesn't hold odor for days. Warm.. ish, good for traveling, when you cannot take shower every day or use laundromat. Buy it

Best underwear for travel

Icebreaker BodyFit200 Boxer w/Fly - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit200 Boxer w/Fly - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2008

Best underwear for travel, doesn't itch. Maybe I got last year model, looking at previous review, so it's hard to tell, but mine hold pretty well so far, no tag itching, doesn't climb in your crotch, doesn't SMELL, but you still will have to change sometimes.

Nice layer, that's it

Icebreaker BodyFit260 Tech Top - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit260 Tech Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 7, 2008

Very nice piece of layering, that's all about it, collar is tight and too high up in your chin, so if you have short neck, beware. Very warm just under a shell, dries quick, not bulky. Doesn't hold odor. try before buy.

Not too much as an outdoor piece

Icebreaker LTD320 Coronet Sport Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker LTD320 Coronet Sport Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 7, 2008

If you looking for a good layer, stick with Bodyfit 260. As far as this sweater, it's lot more expensive, a bit too large to use as layer under technical shell and just a good looking wool sweater, no reason pay so much just for name Icebreaker. Overall, comfortable, more city use than outdoor.
