Arc'teryx Fury SV Softshell Jacket - Men's

October 6, 2009

I have the Sidewinder SV and it does not have snaps, so I would imagine this one doesn't either. Acrteryx hasn't caught on to the fact that snowboarders like their stuff too and are more susceptible to snow crack. I committed the ultimate sin and bought the Stingray bib pant to compensate. Now my crack stays warm and dry.

Arc'teryx Venta AR Softshell Jacket - Men's

August 19, 2009

How would the Venta compare to the Mountain Hardware Dragon in terms of breathability? One of the guys at the local MH shop says he uses the Dragon on his bike rides to work in cool weather and says he loves the breathability. I tried one on and it is very stretchy and seems like it would let the moisture out while still keeping me warm.

Mountain Hardwear Pinnacle Pant - Men's

June 29, 2009

I have a question about the breathability of these pants. It says breathability is rated at 20,000g, which sounds like a nice number, but I would like to know how these compare to the Synchro pants. I was in a Mountain Hardware store recently and the folks working there did not really have a clue. They did say however that the Synchros were the most breathable pants they had, and that both the Synchro and the Pinnacle have the same Conduit membrane. The Synchro seemed nice, but was heavier and had more insulation than I'd like. I am looking for a thin, very breathable yet waterproof to highly water resistant shell, for backcountry splitboarding in warmer temps, say greater than 40F.

Mammut Convey Pant - Men's

June 9, 2009

I'd like to know if these pants would work well for spring touring. I am concerned they might be too warm. Otherwise they look sweet and I'd like to get them. Any one have experience using these in warmer spring/summer temps?

Patagonia Wool 2 Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

April 1, 2009

Has anyone compared these to the Capilene 2 Crew? I just bought a set of the Capilene 2 baselayers, and wore them snowboarding yesterday. They worked great! I was super comfortable. I am intrigued by the Merino wool on the Wool 2, but I am not sure if the performance is worth double the cost of the Capilene 2.

Burton Hook Softshell Jacket - Men's

Burton Hook Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 16, 2009

This is a sick jacket. The cut and fit of it are just right. The hood makes it perfect for a rainy night out around town. My one complaint, and the reason I haven't bought one yet, are the damn pit zips. There is nothing to cover the zippers on the inside, so the cold metal zippers press against your arms. They felt cold inside the store, I could only imagine how this would feel outside. It's a softshell right? Why does it need vents?

All this aside, I still really want this jacket. Just make sure you have plenty of long sleeve shirts to wear under it. I am a tee man.
