Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

November 30, 2010

I bought a couple of these shirts (November 2010) and when wet, they smell like a wet dog (sheep presumably), not a hint of smell when dry, this definitely doesn't happen to my i/o, icebreaker or smartwool stuff, did I get a bad batch or will the smell go away after a couple of washes?

Cloudveil Down Patrol Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Down Patrol Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2010

Excellent jacket, warm, well designed, good quality. I'm 6' and 200 lbs and the Large fits me well, it is snug, but not too tight. It has a zip-off hood and powder skirt. Plenty of roomy pockets that are easy to get in and out of. The zippers work well and don't snag. The hood and collar are adjustable to keep drafts out. If someone from Cloudveil reads this, my compliments, job well done.

Mountain Hardwear Dragon Softshell Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Dragon Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 January 29, 2010

I honestly tried to get used to this jacket, but the longer I have it, the less I like it. There are a few things that bother me. One is the material, though it's thin and stretchy which is good, I have to wear long sleeves under this jacket b/c it feels ridiculously scratchy on the inside. Two, the cuffs don't have a velcro or snap for adjustment, instead they have a little sleeve with a thumb loop. The thumb loop is too small for my thumb and the cuffs feel flappy around my wrist and, of course, cold air goes right up my arm. Three, the outside chest and inside mp3 pockets are uselessly small AND sewn on top of each other, so if I bring my mp3 which barely fits into the mp3 pocket and I put my small cell phone(forget about fitting a blackberry in there) in the outside pocket, I look like I have one giant left boob. So overall, the material is not ideal and the design is not well thought thru. And it's made in China so considering the huge profit MH is making on this jacket, they could have done a much better job.

another solid marmot product

Marmot Leadville Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Leadville Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 20, 2009

This jacket is IMO better suited for shorter aerobic activities, like going for a jog. It doesn't keep me warm when I stop, especially in below 40F weather. It's light, breezes well and beads up nicely in light rain. The fit is athletic, I'm 6' 200lbs and a size large fits me well with room for a microfleece underneath. The pockets are relatively roomy. Quality is good, it's well made. The materials feel and look nice. I got it on sale for $70, I do not think it's worth the full price, and I do not use it as a primary or everyday jacket. Hood and pitzips would have been nice.
