Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski

February 10, 2011

Jarrett...skied next years prophet 105 and SFB today. Absolutely loved the SFB, but until they make a longer version I just don't think the 184 is going to be long enough. I would buy the SFB right this very minute if they made a 190.

The prophet is really carvey like a GS ski. Some people like that and others might not.

22 Designs Axl Telemark Binding

January 8, 2011

Question for someone who has skied these bindings -

I love my Hammerheads for the resort, and today I got to try the Axls for free thanks to Mammoth Mountaineering's Telebration. I skied the Axls in the middle position and they seemed veeeerrrryyyy stiff. I'm 6'1'', 195 LBs and I usually ski the Hammerheads in the second stiffest position. I'm worried that the first position on the Axls will be too soft and the middle position will be too stiff. I was skiing G3 Tonics, which in my opinion were pretty squirrly, so it wasn't the ideal evaluation. Any thoughts about the 3 different settings on the Axls? I want to get these based on how much I love the hammerheads but I'm worried about the range of stiffness for the descent.

Volkl Gotama Ski

January 2, 2011

of course. i've owned 4 pairs of volkls over the last 3 years and although I've never mounted any of them tele I see plenty of people on the hill that do. They would be a great resort option, but since volkls tend to run a scooch heavier (that's why they ski so stable) they're not ideal for lots and lots of touring and climbing.

Volkl Kuro Alpine Ski

Volkl Kuro Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2010

5 years ago these skis would have been laughable. 5 years ago Gotamas were HUGE. Now when I look at my Gotamas next to my Kuros its almost a joke. If you've been skiing fat skis for a while now and they don't feel so fat anymore, these may be a great option for you.

Pros - Sick in powder (duh). I only have two days on them and haven't had a chance to fully open them up, but they are a ton of fun once you get in the fluff. They simply devour the loose stuff. They also perform well on piste...in fact my first day on these was spent mostly on soft sunny groomers and they make nice GS turns. You won't be carving trenches but you're 100% in control. Anyone who says they are terrible on the "get back" doesn't really "get it". You slide a bit more than you carve, and you blow through push piles and chop. They are stiff like a Volkl and they turn like a Volkl. I thought these would only be for big storm days but they are more versatile than I thought. I got bumped coming fast out of the trees and landed super backseat and was able to muscle out of it...no soft ski would have done that.

Cons - Anything wind blown or crusty is a challenge. But you knew that when you bought them, didn't you? The main negative is the price...they're on sale today (I could have saved $100 but who's counting?) You won't be mounting these with anything less than Jesters, so this is a pricey package. If you can get a bro-deal go for it, but this is like the Ferrari you keep covered in your garage, just waiting for that day when the roads are dry and empty and the weather is nice. Also, while they don't ski heavy, if you hike or tour or just carry your skis often these are not light. But if you have a chairlift or cat or chopper or sled getting you your vert than who cares?

I'm cat skiing these in Canada in 10 days and will amend this review if need be. Bottom line - if you've been on fatties for a while, live west of the Mississippi and can afford them, get them.

DAKINE Concourse Double Ski Bag

January 30, 2010

I have this bag in the long length (200) and it holds my Gotamas (183 CM) and all my gear. Think a pair of Kuros (195 CM) will fit?

you know that ONE pair of ski socks, the ones you reach for first? These are those socks. No complaints, except for the fact that BC.com isn't presently stocking large.

Atomic Janak Telemark Ski

December 27, 2009

Norrøna Stranda Jacket - Men's

September 9, 2009

you know what instantly strikes me as nice about this jacket? the fact that it DOESN"T have 37 pockets like my Spyder jacket does. If i need to carry a bunch of stuff I'll wear my pack...all i need it two handwarmers, one chest and maybe one interior, and I'll rarely use them.

How's the fit? I'm 6-1, 190. My biggest problem with jackets is usually sleeves not long enough and way too much room in the waist.

Black Diamond Push Telemark Ski Boot - Men's

July 9, 2009

question about size...I typically wear a size 10 but sometimes 10.5 depending on manufacturer. I have a brand new pair of SeeThe 27.5s feel like the right length, but maybe just a tiny bit short. But they are killing the tops of my feet. should i get the Push in the 28 instead? BC.com doesn't have many boots at all in 27.5 in stock

Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

November 10, 2008

I'm 6-1, 185. Fairly aggressive skier that prefers Powder but also likes to open it up on groomers when there's no fresh. I ski the Gotama 183 and I love it, but sometimes I feel like i could use a bit more length when I point it and get up to higher speeds. You think I should go all the way up to 191 with these? I went into my local shop and they said they don't even stock that length.

Dynastar Big Trouble Alpine Ski

Dynastar Big Trouble Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 April 20, 2007

I got these for rock skis and ended up using them more than my Gotamas this season. Fun in Pow, they spin well, light and snappy yet still carve on everything except the bullet proof. I wish they had a 180...the 76 is just a shade too short for me.
