Extreme Siam Gloves

Mammut Extreme Siam GTX Glove

Mammut Extreme Siam GTX Glove

Rating for this product: 4 January 25, 2011

First of all, the backcountry.com description of these gloves is inaccurate. It states that they have a removable liner, however this in incorrect, they do not. What they have is something called Gore-Tex 2-in-1 technology, which allows you to slide your fingers into one of 2 chambers in the glove. One chamber is warmer and insulated, and the other chamber basically puts your hand so that the warm chamber is on the back of your hand, giving your fingers more dexterity but less warmth. One would assume that the back of the hand would be twice as warm in this use case.

The outer shell of the glove seems really well constructed, as is typically the case with most Mammut products. The stitching is top notch, and the leather is very soft and supple, and has reinforcements just where you'd want them.

I can't speak to the warmth of the gloves. I am probably going to return them since what I really wanted was a glove that is a shell with a removable liner, which is what I thought that these were.

Arc'teryx Theta SK Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Theta SK Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2008

I posted 2 years ago that these were fantastic pants after 3 years of riding in them. Well, another 2 seasons have gone by, and I'm still using the same pair. Sure, they're a bit stained, and I had to replace the velcro in the legs, but I still love 'em and the still keep me dry! I'll probably ride these again this season and then turn them over to my little bro and get myself a new pair.

Some people complain that the pockets are too small, but I think they're perfectly sized. I can fit my driver's license, credit card, cash, and my car key in there, and everything else goes in the backpack.

Burton AK 3L Glove - Men's

Burton AK 3L Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 23, 2007

The AK 3L glove used to be one of the best gloves on the market, and then for some reason Burton radically changed the fit of this glove and it is now borderline terrible. But it's not all bad. Pros : The shell is fantastic. Other than the gauntlet being too short for my liking (it's practically an under glove size), it's superbly constructed and of course the Gore-Tex makes it waterproof. The included power-stretch liner is also great. I use this glove for driving and to wear while putting on my boots, etc. in the parking lot. The styling of the newly designed glove is great also. The black and red work nicely together. Cons : The liner. The liner. The liner. I understand Burton's desire to make this glove a bit more dexterous, but the fit is so tight that it makes the glove too cold to wear in anything other than spring conditions, which is not what this glove is designed for. I wear a large glove, but even the XL is far too tight for me to wear comfortably. Any of the great features of this glove are completely outweighed by this major design flaw. Bottom line : skip this glove, and buy something else. If you must own Burton, try the AK under glove or the Pinnacle XCR.

I've been using these pants for three seasons now, and they are still in near perfect condition. They are expensive but well worth the money.
