Black Diamond Shiva Alpine Touring Boot - Women's

September 29, 2009

i would disagree - they will work in a downhill binding but you should get the Alpine sole blocks to make the toe height match the standard for downhill bindings. http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Black-Diamond-Shiva-Alpine-Sole-Block/BLD0437M.html Also they will not work in a cross country binding. Depending on the binding you would need a 75mm duck bill for 3 pin bindings or one of the boots in this category http://www.backcountry.com/store/group/15/Touring-Backcountry-Ski-Boots.html . That being said with this boot and an AT binding you can do something very similar to cross country skiing. The set up would just be heavier but much better on the downhill. But this boot won't fit all 3 binding types.

Tributary Strike 2 Tandem Inflatable Kayak

June 25, 2009

I don't see any repair kits on Backcountry. This boat does come with a repair kit.

If you are looking to repair an Aire or Tributary boat then repairing on the seam shouldn't be too hard. With these two types of boats there is an air bladder that is wrapped in the outer layer of polyurethane material. So the outer layer isn't what holding the air in the boat. You could probably sew the seam back up and use some repair material to cover it an it should hold for you.

If you have another brand of kayak it is substantially more difficult to repair a seam because it has to be air tight. Personally i would try to find a company that specializes in raft repair and pay them to do it. A Google search for whitewater raft repair may get you going in the right direction.

Big Agnes Sleeping Giant Memory Foam Sleeping Pad

Big Agnes Sleeping Giant Memory Foam Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 May 18, 2009

Comfortable but only for car camping or rafting. This is way too big and heavy for backpacking and the air pad insert seems a little flimsy to use on it's own.

New twist on an old idea....

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 24oz

CamelBak Podium Water Bottle - 24oz

Rating for this product: 4 May 18, 2009

functional and easy to use. I like the wide mouth because it's easy to clean or add ice to. You have to get the lid on just right or it will leak down the front of you when you squeeze it, which isn't a big deal when you are riding but at work it can be a little embarrassing. Overall it's a great bottle.

Backcountry.com Rime Pullover Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 21, 2009

Great pullover. I wore this riding this weekend in Fruita and although it was sunny it was windy and cold when you were out of the sun. This was the perfect outer layer. It let the heat escape and kept the wind from penetrating so I was never too cold or too hot. This is going to be my new go-to spring bike layer and my bet is it will be perfect for back country skiing as well.

GREAT skis

Black Diamond Verdict Ski

Black Diamond Verdict Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2009

I love these skis. I ski them with an 01 BD binding, but I am having some trouble making tele turns on them so next season i will switch them to AT, They are a fun, stiff ski. They float really well, are great at busting through crud and hold a good edge on hard pack. I did ski a pair of 180s (too long) with the fritchi bindings and they were fun and FAST on the groomers if you push them hard, but I had trouble getting them around in the trees (like I said too long). I can't wait to get my 170s set up with AT bindings, it will be a killer Utah setup.

Black Diamond Verdict Ski

March 19, 2009

i am a women and i ride the exact set up you are asking about. I LOVE these skis but have a hard time making tele turns on them. If she is an aggressive skier and good tele skier (I wasn't when I got on this set up) she will love them. They are a bit heavy but with the free pivot on the 01's it makes the up-track much easier and the ride down is totally worth it.

Stanley Drink Bottle

Stanley Drink Bottle

Rating for this product: 1 March 18, 2009

The durability of the lids is horrible. I have one and i got one for my boyfriend and both of them broke. The threads in the lids cracked and caused the bottle to leak. I am trying to get replacement parts but Stanley hasn't been very responsive. The concept is GREAT and I love it until the tops broke. Now i am on the hunt for a new coffee mug. I am really disappointed.

The North Face NSE Tent Bootie II - Women's

February 5, 2009

Uhhhh, I'm not really sure why you would do that in booties, but you probably could with these-the bottoms are pretty tough. If you are going to do that get these http://www.backcountry.com/store/TNF3268/The-North-Face-Nuptse-Bootie-II-Womens.html - they have a hard rubber sole so they have support and will stand up to the ware of pavement and if you step in some water it won't soak in.

Taking my skiing to the next level....

Black Diamond Stiletto Telemark Ski Boot - Women's

Black Diamond Stiletto Telemark Ski Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2009

These are great boots. They are the fist pair of boots that i have had that fit my feet really well. I ski them with the BD 01 with free flex cartridges mounted on the BD Verdicts. I love the heal retention system they have and the boa system for the liners makes it really easy to keep them sung and fitting well. I haven't taken them touring yet, but the walk mode works great in the parking lot at the resort and is super comfortable. For sizing help i have a narrow foot and heal. But here is the thing with boots try lots of boots on and find ones that fit. No matter how great they are if the last doesn't match your foot type it's going to suck for you.

Black Diamond Stiletto Telemark Ski Boot - Women's

January 30, 2009

Waaaay too stiff. If you're determined to stick with these boots, go for the Black Diamond 02 binding, using probably the Rid Stiff cartridges. Maybe if you're under about 120 pounds go for the Mid Stiff, but even those might not be stiff enough. If, on the other hand, you already have Freeflex O3s and want to get boots to match that level of aggression, go for the Axis or the Trance, or even the Scarpa T2 or T3.I would disagree, I ski these boots on the BD O1 with the free flex and LOVE it (I weigh a lot more then 120lbs and have it mounted on the 07-08 Verdicts). The boot is stiff but the flex of the bellow isn't overly stiff. With the 03 you may be better off with a mid stiff, but if these boots fit you well then try it and it's only something like $40 to get a new set of cartridges if you want something more active.

I LOVE THIS FILTER

Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter

Katadyn Base Camp Water Filter

Rating for this product: 5 December 29, 2008

We took this on a river trip as a back up to several 7 gallon jugs of water, we set it up to try it out and didn't used much of the other water after that. In fact we wound up dumping most of the jugs of water to lighten the load on the boats and because we knew we had this. I can't wait to take it on a backpacking trip. I may actually stay hydrated with this in my pack. It packs up really small and is super easy to use. If you are looking for a water filter i would highly suggest this one.

Backcountry Access Stash Rider Backpack - 976cu in

November 3, 2008

It's not actually designed for skis, but you can strap them in vertically with the snowboard straps (that big black buckle in the photo). That works fine for carrying them. In that case, they'd be attached vertically, flat up your back.Or if you want ski specific and don't need a snowboard carry check out http://www.backcountry.com/store/BCA0066 , it is the same pack without the snowboard carry straps. The Stash pack I linked to has a diagonal ski carry (with the skis bases together). - SMS24

3 hours later and it's still hot

Stanley Drink Bottle

Stanley Drink Bottle

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

There is nothing worse then going to drink you coffee and it being room temperature. This mug eliminates that issue. I put my coffee in there at 8:15am and it's now 11:30am and the coffee is still HOT. The other amazing feature is that it doesn't leak. I mean throw it in you pack next to your computer and don't worry, you won't fry anything and more importantly you will still have hot coffee when you want it. The lid even has a locking feature so you can't unscrew it from the base when you are trying to open the sipping feature. The only thing i wish it had was full handle, but this isn't too bad and it can be clipped on without worrying about it breaking. I can't wait to use it for hiking and ski touring.

KEEN Chamonix Winter Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 April 4, 2008

I really like these boots, I just wish they were warmer for standing outside for long periods of time. That being said I wore them all winter and didn't get wet feet once. The nice thing about them not being too warm is that you can wear them all day and your feet aren't sweating and they are great for the shoulder seasons when it's still a little too cold for sandals. They other thing i really like about the boots is that they look great with everything. As always with Keen I had to size up 1 whole size.

I have taken it skiing with me all season and it has yet to leak on me (unless i forget to close it). The best part is it's sooooo light and takes up no space at all. Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2007

here is the review: you guys were very helpful and got my shoe to me quickly. I wanted an all around shoe that would function as an all day walking shoe in the city ( going to France) Because it is black I hope it can move into dinner as well. We will see. I recently tested it on a trip to NYC. Out of the box, no break in time, walked all day for 3 days, no pain, no blisters and that was without socks. Didn't use as a dinner shoe in NYC but hopeful for France. I usually take an 8 1/2 or 9 size shoe. I needed the 9 1/2 for length with the Venice. A little too wide but okay. Buy it.
