Arc'teryx Theta SK Pant - Men's

Arc'teryx Theta SK Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 5, 2007

I have owned everything from The North Face to Mammut bibs, and these are by far the best all around bibs I have ever come across. They are very light weight, extremely durable, and pre-fitted to the natural curve of the leg, whether you’re skiing down a chute, or placing your crampon on steep ice. My favorite feature is the side zips on the legs...perfect for ventilation, or accessing gear. These bibs reflect perfectly what Arc'teryx is all about. I looked at the Alpha’s also, but I think these bibs breathe better (soft shell above waist) and are more durable with only 2 extra oz.

Outdoor Research Super Couloir Glove

Outdoor Research Super Couloir Glove

Rating for this product: 5 February 5, 2007

My first impression was "I can't believe I just spent $160 on this!!!", but after using them for over half the season, I can now reason with the purchase. For one, they didn't fit quite right when I first got them, but I think they are actually starting to fit to my hands better (maybe loosen up). I also didn't think they would be that warm, but after they kept my hands sweating during a night at 3900m in 40+ gusts I changed my mind. Overall, this is a good glove that can serve multiple purposes. Probably as good of an expedition glove as you can get (I'd say as good as Black Diamond's guide glove, and more supple).

Bomber

Spyder Chamonix Jacket - Men's

Spyder Chamonix Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2006

The quality of this coat is just bomber. This is going to be my backcountry jacket from now on. The insulation is warm and breaths very well. I do wish there was a power skirt on the coat and maybe a slip of fabric above the zippers could help keep out the elements a little more (like Arc’teryx does). I realize the coat is ridiculously expensive, but worth every penny if you demand quality, warmth, style, and convenience in the worst weather Mother Nature can throw down. This might be Spyder’s best performance ski jacket. Buy and take with you if you plan on being out for extended, crazy ski adventures.

Osprey Packs Exposure 66 Backpack - 4000cu in

Osprey Packs Exposure 66 Backpack - 4000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2006

I used this pack for a winter ascent on Rainer last year, and I am already planning an ascent of Mt Blanc with the same pack...this pack does it all. This pack can carry all of the gear that I need and fits it firmly to my back; however, the best part about this pack is the weight, it is virtually weightless. For the money, nothing is better for fast, overnight ski ascents.
