Salomon Flashback Trunk - Men's

Salomon Flashback Trunk - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2007

These shorts are very thin and light. They seem like they might be nice, but they were way too long. I could not keep them because of the excessive length. I would recommend the salomon amphib shorts over these.

Salomon Amphib Short - Men's

Salomon Amphib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 23, 2007

These shorts are incredibly comfortable. The fabric is very soft. I like them much better than prana's mojo short, and I think they're comparable. The length is perfect, not too long not too short. I agree that they run a little small though, so if you like baggy shorts be sure to order up a size.

prAna Mojo Shorts - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 23, 2007

I did not find that these shorts ran large as another reviewer did. I sized down and regret it. I'd order in my regular size if I bought these again. They are comfortable and light weight. Nice shorts, but not quite my favs.

Water Girl Blocker Full-Zip Jacket - Women's

Water Girl Blocker Full-Zip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2007

If you are between sizes, order up. The blocker shirts and jackets run tight, but the pants fit looser. I'm not sure that a cotton jacket is worth so much money, but it does look nice and feel nice.

Patagonia R2 Vest - Women's

Patagonia R2 Vest - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2007

First, this fleece runs very large! I am usually between a size M and L, but I bought this in a M and it isn't tight anywhere (the R1 pullover fights tightly in a L on me)
This is a nice looking fleece, though it's not as fluffy as it looks in the picture, and it's not as fluffy as the arc'teryx delta ar or sv or mountain hardwear monkey. I will have to wait to see how durable it is. I wanted to try a fleece vest because sometimes I get tired of feeling like my arms are bulky. So far it does a great job of keeping me warm and feeling light.

Reef Fanning Sandal - Men's

Reef Fanning Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2007

I was skeptical about buying these but thought I'd give them a try. They are ugly, and I have no use for a bottle opener on my shoes. But I am amazed by their comfort. They look stiff like most sandals, but they actually seem to give a little with every step you take. No more chacos for everyday wear, I can wear these all day without pain.

The North Face Nuptse Winter Bootie - Women's

The North Face Nuptse Winter Bootie - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 February 21, 2007

These boots are very comfortable, but they run way too big! I ended up keeping a pair that's 2 sizes smaller than my regular shoe size. They also have absolutely no traction on snow! I'm not even talking about ice, but snow! They are incredibly lightweight and comfortable though. I would recommend the Sierra Designs DriZone Booties instead (they can be worn outside too).

Mountain Hardwear Torch Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Torch Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 February 19, 2007

This jacket is great. Very light, keeps me dry and warm. Very comfortable compared to other rain jackets. Mountain Hardwear doesn't claim that it's waterproof, but Backpacker Magazine did and I agree. Wind doesn't get through either, even though it is very thin. It's much thinner than the Arc'teryx Gamma SV for instance, and in my opinion, more comfortable and practical. It also packs to a small size. I'll mostly be using this in the summer, so I'm expecting that this will be the only jacket I'll need to bring anymore. It does run small though. Bought a 10, which fits more like an 8. Make sure you size up if you want to layer underneath it.

Good Stuff.

Arc'teryx Accomplice Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Accomplice Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 20, 2006

Of the several Arc'teryx jackets for women I have tried, this is one of my favorites. Arc'teryx bills the accomplice as a casual jacket, and I would agree for the most part. However, this jacket can also be used nicely for lightweight backpacking-type situations. I hate wearing rain jackets, and if I'm going to be hiking in an area that has rain sprinkles but not major storms, this is my favorite option. The DWR will keep me plenty dry and the fleece will keep me plenty warm. It saves space and weight in my pack. This jacket is very thin compared to many fleeces, which is flattering. It's also very warm, but if you're going to be in really cold situations then this would be a good mid-layer. I was a little disappointed because the jacket lacks the zipper guards I've found on every other Arc’teryx jacket. So it is possible to stab yourself in the chin when you zip it up. But this jacket is intended for use in casual settings, and I often use it when I don't want to be dressed up but I don't want to be as casual as a sweatshirt either. It's nice enough to be worn out do dinner or to work. Beautiful jacket that serves its purpose.

Arc'teryx Delta AR Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Delta AR Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 14, 2006

This fleece is awesome. It might even be my favorite. It's so warm, soft/comfortable, and attractive. It's amazingly light and so much less bulky than my other fleeces. It's just beautiful, and yeah it's expensive but if you wear it as much as I do then it's worth it. It runs large though. I usually wear a medium in Arc'teryx, but I found that a small fit me better in this jacket.

Love it

Arc'teryx Maverick AR Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Maverick AR Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 14, 2006

This jacket is great. It's very warm (though not windproof), and comfortable. I love how light it is for the warmth it provides. Other fleeces I've had were always much bulkier. Arc'teryx stuff also fits the female body much better than any other brand I've purchased. If I layer underneath it I can wear it out here in New England as an outer layer during the winter. The DWR is good enough to repel snow and rain as long as you aren't in a storm for too long. The pockets really warm my hands up. And I love the zipper guard because I no longer catch my chin as I zip my fleece up. It's expensive but worth it.

Disappointing, suffers from poor fit.

Arc'teryx Trident Softshell Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Trident Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 14, 2006

I love Arc’teryx jackets, but this one disappointed me. I was really looking forward to wearing this beautiful softshell, but it doesn't fit the female body well like Arc’teryx jackets usually do. This jacket is really unflattering and tight in the chest. I'd say if you're a C cup or larger, this jacket won't fit you in the chest either. The pockets are higher than most jackets (like the gamma SV) to accommodate for your pack, but it's actually really awkward because this jacket fits much tighter than the gamma MX and the material near the pockets pops out even if they're zipped closed. I'd try ordering it in a bigger size, but as it is the sleeves are too long (another problem I've never had with any other Arc’teryx jacket). All of my other Arc’teryx jackets in the same size fit perfectly, but this one really suffers from poor fit. After trying it on with just a t-shirt, I can't imagine trying to wear any other layers underneath it. I won't be able to test any of its technical abilities because I'd rather spend my money on a better-fitting jacket. But this jacket may fit smaller chested women better.

686 Smarty Original Cargo Pant - Women's

686 Smarty Original Cargo Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 November 14, 2006

These pants are comfortable as long as you get the right size. You MUST order a size larger than you normally would. I used to get bruises on after boarding, not from falling but from the plastic belt loops digging into my stomach every time I got off a lift and sat down to strap in. They will keep you dry and warm without overheating. They have plenty of pockets and vents. I've had my Smartys for years, and they haven't ripped anywhere yet, which is highly unusual. Though they could benefit from reinforcing the knees and butt with a stronger material.

Not really for 3 people

Sierra Designs Hyperlight 3 AST Tent - 3-Person 3-Season

Sierra Designs Hyperlight 3 AST Tent - 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 August 9, 2006

Finally got to take this thing out last weekend. It performed decently. My biggest complaint is that it's not really a 3 person tent. Sierra designs suggests that you sleep head-to-toe, but that doesn't really work, and standard sized sleeping pads will definately overlap in the foot area (out of curiosity we stuck two standard size pads next to each other in a rectangular shape, but even then the bottom was slightly touching a tent sidewall. My 2 friends and I are all shorter than 6' tall, but I woke up with a damp sleeping bag because it was touching the sidewall near the foot area. Because there is a 2 inch gap between the tent body and the rain fly, it is a little creepy to wake up with mosquitoes trapped between the two surfaces, and it is also somewhat difficult to prevent them from getting in the tent if one person would like to exit. The unique shape is attractive, but not very practical. Although there are 2 doors, they are right next to each other and it is near to impossible to get out of the tent without waking up the other 2 tentmates. This tent would make a fine, although not hyperlight, 2 person tent but it doesn't cut it as a 3 person tent unless the third person is a child.

Decent

Sierra Designs Hyperlight 3 AST Tent - 3-Person 3-Season

Sierra Designs Hyperlight 3 AST Tent - 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 3 August 9, 2006

This tent is incredibly easy to set up and probably takes around 5-10 min. after your first time. A loop/clip on the fly and one on the tent body are blue, so it's easy to figure out what goes where if it's dark out.

The tent's biggest problem is that it's billed as a 3-person tent. I bought it as a roomy 2-person tent, but recently used it as a 3-person tent. My friends and I (all under 6' tall) had to sleep with all of our heads near the doors but this causes your feet and sleeping pads to overlap. I woke up with a wet sleeping bag because it was too crowded in the foot area and my bag was touching the wall. Even if you attempt to lay two standard size sleeping pads next to each other (in a rectangular position), they barely fit and almost touch the outside walls.

There is a 1 inch gap between the rainfly and tent body near the top of the tent. So you may wake up with mosquitoes buzzing around your head. It makes it more difficult to keep them out of the tent when you try to open the door.

Buy a better tent.
