New Balance MT20 Minimus Trail Running Shoe - Men's

New Balance MT20 Minimus Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 22, 2011

I've been barefoot now for almost two years. These are well made, capable and comfortable...with one caveat. If you have EE-EEEE I would recommend avoiding them. The fifth metatarsal bone may get very sore. This is due to the reinforcement strap at that area. I still say they are comfortable because I'm pretty sure if I had a narrow foot they would be. I continue to wear them but I no longer run in them. I should have returned them right away so it's on me and I'm to stubborn (and cheap) to throw them away.

These are not super minimalist. If you're new to barefoot some shoes can be worn with socks. These can not. I also find the quality superior to the Merrells. I've worn them all. Barefoot running and working has literally eliminated a lifelong lower back problem. An important caveat if you haven't tried this. Nothing compares to Vibram Fivefingers for true foot stability. For me it makes a huge difference to have separate toes. As a chubby old Martial artist with small feet I am acutely aware of my stances. For me all closed toes are a compromise albeit a welcome one over traditional shoes.

College Water

Laken Classic Bottle - 0.75L

Laken Classic Bottle - 0.75L

Rating for this product: 4 August 6, 2011

Bought two for my daughter to take to college. Light enough to wear as earrings. What can you say? Laken quality. Holds water well. Interior coating is holding up well after four scrubbings. She likes the top design. She had two of the squared sides Lakens in Africa for four months with The Traveling School. Dented to heck but never cracked and interior coating looks fine despite daily scrubbings. I'll send a pic.

i give it four stars just because I like to think everything can be improved and I'm still not wild about interior coatings. They will always wear off eventually. I do love Laken's bottles. They are probably my favorite for quality and weight.

Katadyn MyBottle Purifier Bottle

September 6, 2010

According to Katadyn you just dip it in the water and put cap/filter on. I guess no issues with nasties in cap or on threads because it seals well enough. Any water that touches your lips comes right from the filter to the drinking spout. The spout obviously never going anywhere near the pretreated drinking water. Have to wash that with already treated water if it's grungy. Sort of the ultimate day hike/sport bottle really. Sounds good for rafting and North African restaurants!

Katadyn MyBottle Purifier Bottle

September 6, 2010

Ok. i'm trying to imagine I'm in the backcountry or maybe a hotel in Africa. If I'm using tap or bottled water easy to see how you'd get in the MyBottle. But what about on the trail or off road? Maybe use a separate bottle to pour the water into the MyBottle? Is it filtered as I drink it (I suspect yes) or as I pour it into bottle? I'll try to find complete specs on it. Google time!

Is the filter replaceable? How much? Aren't the katadyn fliters for the other bottle?

Scarpa SL M3 Backpacking Boot - Men's

Scarpa SL M3 Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 7, 2010

Lots of detailed info in the other reviews. I just wanted to add for us wide feet guys that these do not fit that wide. I was told they were wider than the old old narrow italian last. I guess they are a bit but still tight. I love a full leather Scarpa and will be stretching them and wearing them anyway. I know they'll adapt quick enough from experience. I'm a EE with high arches.

Also if you're looking for a dress / hike boot I think this is a poor choice. Unless you really enjoy maintaining the leather weekly. (I'm not being sarcastic-some people enjoy the maintanence part) It is a beautiful boot but if you really use them like 'Guru' (in the pictures) does they'll end up looking like his no matter what! Leather this beautiful, tough and still supple scuffs and that's the way it is.

The North Face Banta Stitch Beanie

The North Face Banta Stitch Beanie

Rating for this product: 1 January 2, 2008

The hat is fine. The label is placed (sewn) in front, doesn't match and is clearly an afterthought. If you're shredding in Gloria Vanderbilt Jeans, this is the hat for you. S

Badly conceived

Patagonia Footwear Manuka Sandal - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Manuka Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 May 31, 2007

I'm guessing these are manufactured in China. The sizing is inaccurate. The leather toe split is too thick. At this price I really expected something special. The lined foot bed is a good idea. Maybe we'll see a better incarnation someday.

Outdoor Research Radar Pocket Cap

Outdoor Research Radar Pocket Cap

Rating for this product: 5 May 31, 2007

I ordered the extra large and shockingly...it was extra large. I can't believe I had to return an XL for a large. Could there really be a clothing company that pays attention to us mesomorphs? I will be checking out a lot more of Outdoor Research's gear from now on. Quality and finish were excellent and accurate sizing, Yee Haw!

April 2010. Both of my radar caps have been worn and stuffed in a pack dozens (hundreds?) of times. I won't bore you with a lot of detail. They both work and look great.

Patagonia Footwear Manuka Sandal - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Manuka Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 May 10, 2007

I was surprised by this Pantagonia product. The sizing was inaccurate (too small) and the toepiece was very uncomfortable. The leather is hard and too thick to wear comfortably between your toes. At over $80 dollars they should at least fit accurately.

Arc'teryx Croshe Beanie

Arc'teryx Croshe Beanie

Rating for this product: 3 May 10, 2007

This beanie is great for a smaller head, not for extra larges like my big bean. If you size right and don't mind the awkward label placement (I hate labels so perhaps my judgement is tainted), this is nicely made, comfortable and better looking than a shower cap when that perm ain't working my friend.

Patagonia R3 Head Rug

Patagonia R3 Head Rug

Rating for this product: 4 May 10, 2007

This hat fits a tad small if you have a massive BEAN. However, as I write this on my back porch, I am wearing it and nothing else but my Tecnica PCS's with the sun out, snow still on the ground and a chill in the air. The wodka is cold but my head is toasty and I make a fine looking russian.

The North Face WindStopper High Point Hat

Rating for this product: 5 May 10, 2007

I love this hat and consider it invaluable. I always have it stuffed in my pack. In fact I am not even worthy of reviewing it.

Postscript; You only look goofy in it till your friend's fancy schmancy hat blows away in a gale force wind.

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Arc'teryx Covert Beanie w/ Pocket

Rating for this product: 5 May 10, 2007

I bought this hat to run on the beach all winter. It's freezing and incredibly windy on my stretch of sand. I like to travel streamlined with no pockets or anything else to catch the wind. I stick my key fob in the pocket and go! Even with my key in a deep pocket I worried about it. Ever drop a key in the sand next to the ocean? No worries with this hat. Fits great too. Arc'teryx is usually pricey but the quality is excellent.

Great pack. Just the right amount of storage for my needs. I even use it for short trips with my kids to theater practice, sports, etc. Room for a book, some snacks, and I'm reminded to keep drinking water in the summer heat. Kids think it's the bomb, too.

CamelBak SnoBowl 50oz - 91cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 26, 2006

I bought this for dry air Utah skiing. I've never worried about hydrating while skiing before. It made a huge difference in my legs the next day. In really cold weather use the heat warmer pocket. Blow your tube clean by blowing into mouthpiece. I was sucking it dry and it froze up immediately. Highly recommended for sea level dwellers like myself.
