I love Backpacker mag, but...

The North Face Ultra Gore-Tex XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

The North Face Ultra Gore-Tex XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 January 30, 2006

Sizing was a little screwy, lacing system held forefoot well, maybe too well—my heel pistoned with toe-off. It was also uncomfortable with the Gore-Tex liner bunching. I sent these back, ordered the North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Runner (same size) and have been as happy as a pig in mud.

The North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

The North Face Ultra 103 XCR Trail Running Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 30, 2006

I traded in the highly rated Ultra due to fit issues for these fantastic shoes. I went running with my dog off road in four inches of fresh snow + NF gaiter = dry footsies and very happy person/dog. I recommend these for people with skinny heels, they’re very lightweight!

The North Face Winter Gaiter GTX

The North Face Winter Gaiter GTX

Rating for this product: 3 January 30, 2006

Does a great job with North Face shoes, I ran in four inches of new snow and had dry socks and happy feet. Attaching the gaiters took time, and my dog was very impatient. Once on, it is great to not have straps around the soles of your shoes.
