Dude, your bag is BIG

Osprey Packs Transit Courier Bag - 1700 cu in

Osprey Packs Transit Courier Bag - 1700 cu in

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2009

Yup, it is. How else would I be able to carry around my computer, cord, coffee mug, MP3 player and headphones, school books, extra layer, gloves, AND bike lock? Have had it for a little over a year now, and love it more every day. Cord is surprisingly comfortable if bag is not overpacked (a lot of weight is no problem, just high volume). Bag is completely waterproof, including zippers, and with this I don't ever need to worry about my laptop in the rain. Only gripes are thin(ish) strap, odd shoulder pad (must be placed perfectly), and the main zipper looks like it's bound to fail earlier than I want....

Arc'teryx Theta AR Jacket - Men's - DO NOT USE

January 25, 2009

Check the sizing chart. Sounds like a Lrg would fit you best. the Alpha is about an inch shorter. Check the Alpha SL for Pac-lite. The Alpha LT is one of the best lightweight jackets arcteryx makes, and much more durable than the Alpha SL, for only a tiny bit more weightA little more...I am 6'2" and generally stick around 200 lbs as well and have the Theta AR in an XL. It's been the only shell I could find long enough for my torso. Yes, it's a little baggy, but nothing compared to other brands. Going down to a large was not really an option for me as the sleeves and shoulders are significantly smaller than on the XL. Also, the Alpha is in fact quite a bit shorter in the torso than the Theta. Hope that helps.

Marmot Work Glove

December 3, 2008

the exum uses membrain and fleece lining and the work uses gore-tex and spirafil insulation. also, the way the leather is worked around the glove is differently in both.

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Osprey Packs Aether 70 Backpack- 4000-4400cu in

Rating for this product: 4 November 7, 2008

Pros: Lightweight, durable (no signs of wear after 2 years of use), hip-belt is extremely comfortable once you get it molded (which I highly recommend!), sleeping bag compartment is perfect (there is an adjustable panel inside separating it from the main compartment), removable top for hip pack is awesome, adjustment straps and stretch outer compartment are perfect, and of course, carries heavy loads like a champ.
Cons: harness not the most comfortable, not extremely weather resistant, only two pockets, water bottle pockets are awkward.
Overall: I've used it for 2 years now, for everything from basic traveling to week+ long backpacking trips and for the price, I am quite satisfied. Once I dial in the harness/suspension just right (and slap on a good rain cover!), I couldn't be happier. Decent pack.

Carhartt Double-Front Washed Duck work Dungaree Pant - Men's

Carhartt Double-Front Washed Duck work Dungaree Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2008

Greatest pants I have ever owned. Bomb-proof. Super comfy. I've lived in them for the last 4 years, and they're not showing any signs of quitting. I use em for everything, including 3 seasons of landscaping. Fit's nice and loose, yet not too baggy. The double front is awesome. I had ACL reconstruction a few years back and the two layers is just enough padding for kneeling on hard surfaces. Material is so strong, a knife doesn't even cut them. Buy them. Love them.

so light, so warm.....

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2008

This is my first down jacket, and I could not be happier. It is super light, packs down to the size of a nalgene, fits perfectly under a shell for when it's dumping, and of course, super toasty. Even when it is -10 F with a stiff breeze, all i need to wear under this jacket is a tshirt. It really is that warm. As for durability, I take care of all my gear the best i can, and thankfully have not ripped it yet. The fabric isn't very thick, but what do you expect from such a light jacket? The loft of the down has started to break down from repeated packings, but shaking it seems to restore most of the original loft. Even still, it is soooooo toasty.

Black Diamond Oasis 3-Person 3-Season Tent

May 2, 2008

Just got mine. Length from back to point on front is probably about 102, while the widest part is probably about 83. Again, the 102 is to the point, so it seems a little smaller than that. Also, it tapers quite a bit in the back to probably 4 feet or so. Hope that helps!

Not too bad.

Asolo Fugitive GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Asolo Fugitive GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 5, 2007

first, i'd like to say that i've used these boots for the last two years for hundreds upon hundreds of hours of landscaping work and have yet to be disappointed by these boots while working. however, i have also put on a few hundred miles of hiking trails in them as well, and must say that for that (which of course is their intended use), i have been mildly disappointed. while the sole is quite solid for such a lightweight boot, the sole does wear through a little more quickly than i predicted. the gripe that others have had with the Gore-Tex lining i did not experience until about a year after their use, but when the lining in the heel crumpled up i developed bursitis (so my running friend told me) on my heel during a backpacking trip in Yellowstone. i've figured out that all i need to do is position my heel a little more precisely in the boot prior to wear now, kind of annoying, but i haven't had a problem for about a year now. while these boots are waterproof, in my time landscaping, i've successfully managed to break through to the Gore-Tex lining in multiple areas, and they no longer provide protection from the water, but i doubt that this would occur if only used for hiking as intended. like i said, i have used these boots almost more than any shoe i have ever worn, and two years later, i still use them every week. they are 90 percent of the time super comfy and i would still recommend them if one were able to get them on sale. one last thing; the lace eyelets eat through bootlaces like no other. i've already gone through 4 pair and never go hiking without an extra pair.

wow

Black Diamond Patrol Glove

Black Diamond Patrol Glove

Rating for this product: 4 December 5, 2007

SUPER DURABLE. got 'em on SAC for really cheap and they already paid for themselves two years ago right after i got them. suprisingly warm for pretty much a soft shell glove, until you wear them in. back when i first got them, they kept my fingers toasty down to zero, but since i've packed down the fleece lining, i find it difficult to get them down to 15, let alone 10. however, since i've packed them down, the dexterity has gone up significantly, and now rather than simply a ski glove, i find myself using them for everything i do, yardwork, working on the truck, bar-hopping, they've essentially become my favorite work glove. oh, and they are super durable, the goatskin really holds up well under a vast assortment of uses.

best base layer for me

The North Face El Cap Shirt - Men's

The North Face El Cap Shirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 5, 2007

gf got me one 4 years ago for my birthday, and it is still my favorite shirt. 2 years ago bought another one because i loved it so much. i have a hard time finding base layers that are long enough in the torso for me, and this one is a perfect fit. it is super breathable, durable (it can snag, like any Capilene shirt, but it doesn't spread), and zip 'er up and it blocks more wind than most base layers i've used. i recommend this shirt so much, i'm actually considering buying 2 more right now!!

Marmot Never Summer Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 December 5, 2007

incredibly comfortable, a lot of room, even with my wide shoulders!! for a zero degree down bag of this price, i was shocked with how small it packs down to. got it for late fall/early spring stays in Yellowstone and Glacier and first got to test it out this fall. got down to about 15 in Yellowstone, and my 3 buddies were in 15 20 25 degree bags and froze. i sure didn't though!! soooooo comfortable, almost slept in the nude!! i love this bag. i've never had a zero degree bag and am certain i picked the very best

Giro 2008 Fuse Helmet

Giro 2008 Fuse Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 December 4, 2007

I've had this helmet for years. went through a year of racing, did one awesome job protecting my head from those slalom gates as well as the wonderful 'ice' we skied on. venting system works like a charm. vents are actually sculpted to help suck in air, which is always a plus on those 30 degree days. come spring, pop of the ear pads, take out the plugs and open the vents, and it'll barely feel like you're wearing anything at all. REALLY COMFY, why ever wear a beanie when you can protect your skull from the hidden rocks and trees whizzing past you?
