Super light and incredibly functional

The North Face Redpoint Optimus Insulated Jacket - Men's

The North Face Redpoint Optimus Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 3 days ago

I've got 6 or 7 performance jackets in the closet, and when the arctic chill rolls into New England the Redpoint is the first one I grab every time. Its incredibly warm, but a featherweight. I love this jacket to throw on when approaching windy summits or extended breaks on the skin track. I'll even wear it alone when resort skiing on cold days. A midweight base layer alone for <15F and all add a midlayer beneath it for temps <5F down to wind chills in the -20's. Its got an understated style that looks great around town as well.

My Redpoint is decorated with plenty of taffeta tape these days as glade skiing and campfire embers have taken their toll. Good owners would layer a hardshell over it in these conditions to product its thinner nylon shell. I like mine so much Im thinking of picking up a Plasma Thermal for hard use and using my Redpoint purely as a packable thermal layer on the trail.

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic 2.0 Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 3 days ago

Perfect fit for those with longer arms. Im 5'10 with 35" sleeves and a large fit perfectly with a little bit of space for a midweight layer beneath, I think I could have even gone with a medium for an even tighter fit. I've used this jacket in hurricane conditions, mountain biking in the rain, and skiing and its great for every situation. Check out the complete review here http://frsk.me/dt

Great One ski quiver for the east, but little hooky in bad snow and tight spots.

Line Prophet 100 Ski

Rating for this product: 4 3 days ago

These Prophet 100 / Karhu Team 100 rips down crud, bumps, pow and especially groomers. Make sure you size up because they ski really, really short (186 measures 183 and with the twin it skis more like a 178). Check out the complete review here http://frsk.me/ds

Unbelievable Comfort, Buttery Smooth Flex

Garmont Ener-G Telemark Ski Boot - Men's

Garmont Ener-G Telemark Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 3 days ago

I've skied 3 seasons in my Ener-G's and they have served me well. I've skied them with both hammerheads and mid-stiff O2's and O1's and they feel great in any configuration. The bellows flex is super smooth, but the upper cuff is stiff enough to drive big skis fast and hard. The sub-standard liner's were plenty warm but packed out after only 30 days leaving me floating in a shell that was once a performance fit (I went down 2 street shoe sizes). As a result I've stepped up to a T-Race this season.

If you ski a lot of BC or Powder, this is the boot for you. Its also the only boot I never wanted to take off at the bar - like a pair of slippers in walk mode.

The Reference Standard of Telemark Bindings

22 Designs Hammerhead Telemark Binding

22 Designs Hammerhead Telemark Binding

Rating for this product: 5 3 days ago

These are the tele binding by which all others are compared and even with the advent of NTN, people are still drawn to powerful 75mm setups like a T-Race/Hammerhead for unparalleled (pun intended) control and power. I started out on hammerheads myself, and always skied them in at #4 for hardpack and #3 for bumps and powder. I switched to BDO1's a couple season's back for better touring, but after skiing on some demo HH's last year, I've decided to make the switch back for resort skiing - power and lateral control is worth the lack of a tour mode. If you absolutely need free-pivot touring, check out the AXL.

Best Ski Evarrr.

Armada JJ Ski

Rating for this product: 5 3 days ago

I've ridden a lot of skis in my time, and the 09' JJ (2010 is the same) was good enough to take top billing. East Coast, West Coast, Deep Pow, Crud, Breakable Crust, Ice, Groomers, even soft bumps were no match for these boards. Check the complete, comprehensive season-long review here http://frsk.me/dr

Good feel but lesser quality

Tecnica Agent 110 Ski Boot - Men's

Tecnica Agent 110 Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 17, 2009

When I first put a pair of the Agent 110s on I felt like they were made for my foot. The 26.5 (full size down from my running shoe size) was the perfect shell length for my foot to provide a performance fit, but after 10 days the liners have packed out significantly and I am now in the process of trying to find the right sized Intuition liner to replace the stock liners. I love the flex for all types of skiing, but they really shine in the pow and bumps. I just wish all boot manufacturers could figure it out and start selling their higher end boots with true custom moldable liners like Scarpa, Garmont, Dalbello and some others have been doing for years.

DAKINE Tactic Backpack - 1500cu in

DAKINE Tactic Backpack - 1500cu in

Rating for this product: 2 February 17, 2009

I was looking for a lift-service/sidecountry pack to carry my DSLR and some light gear. While the diagonal carry was pretty slick, I hated all the extra length of the straps when the bag was compressed, something that could easily get caught in a chair, even when buttoned down with the integrated elastic bands. The fit was floppy and generic, the waist belt was too long and the excess strap that was folded up in the elastic stow bands on the waist was annoying, and it would frequently fall out and become a snag hazard. The material this pack is made out of feels like cheap nylon. I have an old DaKine Heli Pro II from 2003 thats made of a much stronger fabric, so I know they are capable of better. I returned it to BC.com and ended up with the Black Diamond Covert 22. No back panel access but a much better made, better fitting, and well designed back for what I needed.

Ortovox Ski Plus 23 Pack

Ortovox Ski Plus 23 Pack

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2009

This pack is very well made, with a fantastic snug and streamlined fit to your torso. I really the simple, functional design. The back-panel access is a great design that works very well. I wanted badly to keep this bag, but the a-frame only ski carry system falls significantly short compared to other options out there. If you look at the profile shot of this bag, you are limited to skis no wider than those black straps on the side which are stitched down and fixed in length. If you drive fat planks, then your SOL. I sent this bag back to BC.com and got the BD Covert 22, which doesn't have as good a fit as the ortovox, nor the back panel access, but the highly functional ski carry of that pack took precedence for me.

Ortovox Ski Plus 23 Pack

Its A-Frame, and the product description is misleading. You can carry boards of any size, as long as they are narrow enough to fit within the ski straps on the side.
