CRKT Tiny Tighe Breaker Knife

CRKT Tiny Tighe Breaker Knife

Rating for this product: 3 September 26, 2008

Very solid knife. Its a tad heavier than I thought. My scale has it at about 4oz. While the autoLAWKS mechanism is nice, it does open in your pocket sometimes. The grip is great, but my hand is too big for it to fit 4 fingers around. I love CRKT knives

My new favorite boxer

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

These are my new go to boxers. Great fit. I bought these, patagonia boxerbriefs and mountain hardwear boxer briefs just to test out a few brands. They can make it through the day without constant adjusting. While backpacking other boxers tend to fight with my hiking shorts, they want to give me a wedgie and my shorts want to sag. These keep right in place. Best of all, they don't smell like dead things after one use (like my old go to's, Under Armour). Highly recommended, I'm going to buy a few more pairs.

Annoying to wear

Patagonia Active Sport Boxer Brief - Men's

Patagonia Active Sport Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 September 26, 2008

Strange cut. I have to constantly adjust these all day long. Even if I wear them to work. These are a last resort in my undies drawer.

Decent, but better exist

Mountain Hardwear Extend Featherweight Boxer - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Extend Featherweight Boxer - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 26, 2008

These get the job done (in a strictly adequate sense). Require lots of adjustment throughout the day and more often than not the fly is open because of the huge opening. I have used better and worse.

Awesome Jacket

Arc'teryx Epsilon SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Epsilon SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 26, 2008

This is a great Jacket. Lighter weight than other soft shells I've owned. Very breathable. The hood is a tad tight with a helmet, however I do also have a giant head. I'm 6'2" 195lbs and the large fits great. I went with the mountain safety orange (because that was all that was avail. in my size) which I cringed at at first, but now I like it. I stick out in summit shots just fine!

Burton Motive Striped Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Burton Motive Striped Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 26, 2008

Definitely not a lightweight shirt. Burton didn't skimp on the fabric for this shirt...what they did skimp on was stripes. The striped front and plain back is kind of...awkward. Other than that, I dig it.

Outdoor Research Radar Pocket Cap

Outdoor Research Radar Pocket Cap

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

I love this hat. Plain and simple.

I wear it while backpacking, fly fishing, approach hiking, camping, driving... It's particularly useful on backpacking trips. If its too hot for a hat, I fold it up and stow in any pocket. The brim is long enough for keeping the sun off of my eyes and short enough to make me forget its in my pocket. It's often made me the brunt of many Castro jokes (I have a beard), but I don't care. I'm going to buy another right now.

prAna Alias Zip Pullover - Men's

prAna Alias Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2007

I got this in the mail yesterday and have had it on since. Its very soft, warm and reasonably lightweight. The cut is great and fits me and my longish torso very well. Its nice to find something in a size thats long enough without being cut for a heftier man. It looks nice too; I'm wearing it at work right now (Well I don't have to wear a tie for my job).

Dynastar Legend 8000 Alpine Ski w/ PX 12 Ti Lifter Binding

I demo'd these last weekend in variable conditions: groomed, powder, chunky, off trail and they were great. They're nice and fast if you let loose.

Cloudveil Inversion Down Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Inversion Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2007

I love this jacket. Its super-ultra lightweight and very warm. Its not as puffy as most down jackets out there so you can wear it out on the town without looking like marshmallow backcountry boy. Its a great layering piece and packs down to about the size of a Nalgene (maybe smaller). I originally bought it for very cold temps but I don't it would cut it for sub-zero. However its turned into a great down sweater that I will bring along on 80% of my backcountry ventures from summer peak baggin' to fall backpacking.

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Hoody Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2007

This is a great hoody. It's super comfortable, super stylin' and super warm. I would say the sizes run bit larger than normal. I wear a L in most everything and this is kinda baggy on me. I still love it but would say its more like a Large in a frontcountry hoody than a large in outdoor gear.

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2007

This is by far the most used piece of gear I own. It's very warm and layers great. My only...I wouldn't say complaint...we'll say 'thing'...is that the cut doesn't really work for the long torso'd crowd. this goes for most outdoor gear as a lot of clothing is cut for harness use. I just don't like my belly button exposed every time I reach up. The stitching is unraveling a tad in the cuff also, but that's more attributed to the beating I give it. No holes have come of it.

I've warm these in snow (skiing), rain (trekking), ice (climbing) and they are impenetrable. They're great and lightweight bomber pants.

Gregory Palisade Backpack - 5100 cu in

Gregory Palisade Backpack - 5100 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2007

This pack has come with me for 2 month long trips to New Zealand, multiple sections of the AT, and much much more. Its held up just fine for the two years I've owned it. The suspension system works beautifully and carries heavy loads. In my book gregory packs are the best.

Marmot Cirque Down Jacket - Men's

Marmot Cirque Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2007

This thing is great. Well, I haven't tested it outside yet. I will be putting it to the test at 19,000+ feet in about 3 weeks--we'll see how she holds up. Right now my only gripe is that when zipped all the way up it is a little tight around my neck.

Asolo Power Matic 400 GV Backpacking Boot - Men's

Asolo Power Matic 400 GV Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 1 November 27, 2006

I wore these during for a month in New Zealand, and on the second day of my first trek I got a quarter-sized blister on one heel, the next day I got one to match the other heel. By the end of the trip I lost 3 toenails, 2 grommets (off the boot) and could barely walk without popping 800mg of Advil. 9 months later I still have scars. Yes, I did break them in. No, my toes didn't touch the front of the boot.
